Incomplete thoughts & Incomplete drafts

I clearly haven’t been that great at blogging lately. Crazy how life kinda gets in the way. It’s not that I haven’t been thinking about blogging. In fact I’ve had almost a half dozen or so unfinished posts just sitting in my drafts for up to three months now. It’s things I want to share but either don’t have the time to really finish or just don’t have the motivation. So there they sit…partial thoughts and half written posts. Until now…

Hawaii
We’re headed to Hawaii!! While we’re going for a wedding, we’re doubling the trip as the family vacation we were planning for our tenth anniversary. First I was excited with the idea. Then I booked plane tickets and had a mild panic attack soon after I hit “buy now”. {Not having discretionary funds for so long does messed up things To ones mind when it comes time to actually buy something not technically “needed”. Having the money in the bank makes no difference.} Now that I’m done with the freak out, I’m back to excited. Because Lord knows we’ve earned a vacation and…HAWAII! I’m sure come June I’ll be looking for tips in flying with a 1 year old.

Baptism
We had Reese baptized back in early December. Yep, over 2 months ago. It was a low key ceremony held with just family right after mass. My sister and my brother are her god parents. Reese is wearing the same gown that Rylee wore, that was hand made by a woman in our church. The deacon that assisted in mine & Andy’s wedding, whom also baptized Rylee, baptized Reese. That meant a lot to us. {and being the mom of the year candidate I clearly am, I forgot the camera so all we have are phone pics. Winning!}

Car
Back in November we bought a new car! I’ve mentioned it a time or two before, but have yet to “give you a tour”. It’s pretty much awesome. We love it. We’ve had it barely over two months and we’re already taking it in for its first service. In 2 months and one week we’ve put over 5,000 miles on it. That my friends? Is a shit-ton of driving.

Blogging

Right now I’m kind of struggling with some blogging things. I’d love to grow my readership and eyeballs that see my little corner of the Internet but lets be real…I don’t write earth-shattering-viral-material, I’m not an “authority” on anything, I’m not a DIY-er, my photos are hardly pin-worthy. I cook some really tasty things, but I seriously lack in decent food photography skills. Or really any photography skills for that matter. Heck most of the time, I’m recycling photos I’ve posted in Instagram. Why would people want to come here? Why am I really doing this? For me? For my girls to look back on someday? Sure, that’s all part of it. I squeeze blogging into my lunch breaks because when I’m home from work, I’m cooking dinner, bathing kids, putting them to bed and oh you know, attempting to relax with my husband. It’s blogging this is something I do for fun and my family comes first. So what I do needs to be enough. I’m currently in the process of coming to terms with that. {in the meantime, if you’d like, feel free to tell all your friends about this super awesome, hilarious, riveting, real, ____(insert chosen adjective here) blog.}

Beach body

Back in September I wrote about being ready to lose some baby weight. Then…well…I didn’t really follow through with that. I mean, technically I’ve lost the weight and I’m back down to my pre-baby days {thank you breast feeding!} but things are…squishy? {Seriously…my poor belly button} Now that we’ve got Hawaii on the horizon I’m officially motivated to get beach ready. Instead of focusing on losing lbs, I’m going to focus on losing inches and toning/definition. I want to be fit and healthy. Not just a certain number on the scale. And let’s be real, no way in hell I’m giving up coffee creamer, cheese, my daily sweet tooth attack and the occasional dr. Pepper. I’m not that motivated, people. I’ll be meeting with a friend/personal trainer in a couple of weeks. She offers classes at her own gym but I’m not able to make them due to my schedule. So we’re going to go over my goals and she’s going to show me some exercises I can do at home, or on my own at the gym near my work. And yes, I’m actually planning on blogging my progress.

Lingering.

This cold/crud I was down with almost two weeks ago is still lingering and its driving me bonkers! At this point I feel fine and it’s nothing more than a stuffy/runny nose and a cough…but holy crap is it annoying. I’m thinking how Andy must think he married the sexiest woman in the world every morning as I’m hocking up loogies in the bathroom while I’m getting ready. What can I say? He’s a lucky man. Hawt, I know.

So there you go…all of my half-written posts wrapped up in a pretty, mediocre bow. I’m off to clear out my drafts and start fresh next week. Happy Friday!

Oooh Life

I almost started out this post by saying that this last weekend was just what I needed. Then I remembered that’s pretty much how I started my post about my New Year’s weekend. Is it really possible to have two weekends in a row that are that good? Am I tempting fate by putting that out in the internet-world? Does that mean that this weekend will just downright suck? Perhaps.

This weekend we tackled part of our new year’s resolution of revamping our laundry room/pantry space. Then that morphed into tackling Ry’s closet and our office/play room the next day. We also hit up costco. Andy went shooting with a buddy. And the girls and I spent some much needed time playing outside. In the SUN! Slowly but surely our house is getting into order. I sense this weekend will be another busy one with organizing and purging. I need to finish the office area. We’re getting rid of the GIANT desk that is used for nothing more than to stack papers on top of. I seriously can’t wait!

I’m eyeball deep in tradeshow prep at work. This is our first major tradeshow as a company so this week/two beforehand is extra important for me and my Type-A self. So, please excuse the photo dump…that’s pretty much all I’ve got the time for at the moment. One day I may return to some sort of real blogging.

Someone has been practicing her sitting up skills…she was doing pretty well on Saturday and was making herself belly laugh every time she realized she was sitting on her own.

Rylee was super into the shelving project. The checker at the home improvement store let her scan everything with the handheld scanner. Then she helped Andy with all the leveling and stud finding…legit doing it by herself. Andy was having a blast doing the project with her. It was the sweetest thing to sit back and watch.

Safety first, friends!

The mostly finished product! Horray for smarter use of space! {Boo for how much that shelving stuff costs! Holy crap}

20130109-124304.jpg

Her closet has been like straight out of the movies, if you open it you’re not sure if you’ll be taken out by a toy avalanche. Don’t tell Rylee, but while she wasn’t looking I started throwing stuff away.

20130109-124315.jpg

Go ahead and file this under heart-melting moments. Rylee is such an amazing big sister. Seriously almost makes me cry. {Side note: WHEN DID I BECOME SUCH A SAP!?!?}

Our front yard. Amazing day.

MUD PIES! What’s hilarious is how Ry is still, 3 days later, so shocked I let her play in the mud. What she doesn’t realize is that this was so me when I was her age. I LOVED playing in the mud when I was little. She was building a robin’s nest, by the way.

I think we’re finally starting to get the hang of the work/fun balance thing. At least I hope we are.

Our little family of four is settling quite nicely into itself. I love them. So much.

Another Quickie

Mind out of the gutter people!

I’m only in the office 3 days this week so my to-do list is packed.

Andy was working down at the rental pretty much all weekend {new renters moving in this weekend! yay?} so it was just the girls and me for the majority of the time. Which, by the way, was fine by me since I’ll be gone this coming weekend and he’ll get them all to himself.

Saturday was a pretty normal weekend day for us. I did my meal planning and made a grocery list then the girls & I hit the grocery store. Got home, had lunch, put the girls down for nap. I washed/folded/put away a lot of laundry this weekend. A friend had come over to help Andy trim the crap out of the apple tree down at the rental so we grabbed pizza for dinner. I freaking love pizza.

20121008-130210.jpg

Sunday the girls & I met my cousin for coffee and a walk along the river. It was great to get out and enjoy some of the last few days of sun before Oregon weather really sets in and it was really great to spend some time with my cousin! Even though she only lives a few minutes away, life tends to get in the way. {that seems to be the case with most things, right!?} Reese was clearly not impressed with our coffee stop and I’m pretty sure that blueberry muffin went straight to the crazy part of my kid’s brain!

20121008-130221.jpg

Ry had a blast switching between riding her bike and walking. {country girl still needs some work on her bike path etiquette.} Reese slept the entire time, of course.

20121008-130234.jpg

When we got back to the Jeep Ry munched on a snack and we continued to visit. Then I fed Reese in the car while Rylee picked all the m&m’s out of her trail mix. {mom of the year right here folks!} After Reese was done, Rylee snapped a few pics with my phone.

20121008-130227.jpg

Last night I went to town scrubbing down the kitchen sink and counters. Such a rewarding feeling! {holy crap, I’m a boring adult.}

It was nearly long enough, but all in all, a great weekend. Happy Monday!

Life via iPhone

Apparently I never mastered the whole “blogging while on maternity leave” thing. I’d either feel bad I was ignoring Rylee or Andy or it’d be nap time for the girls and I’d either catch a few Zzz’s myself or look around at my disaster of a house a feel the sudden urge to scrub all the things. Or you know, load the dishwasher at least.

Don’t fret. This is my last week of maternity leave. Yep, 6 weeks has nearly already passed and I’m headed back to work on Tuesday the 4th. September is part time, then I’m back full time at the beginning of October.

I’m ready, but not. If that makes any sense at all.

While it seems nearly impossible to bust out my laptop for some legit blogging, I always have my phone handy so while 1 kid naps and the other eats I thought I’d give a quick update…

Ry heads back to school next week. She has a new teacher that we met in Saturday. She is really looking forward to being back at school! She’s still struggling with her sassy attitude. Well, ok she has no problem with it. I’m the one struggling.

Reese will be 6 weeks on Thursday. Crazy. She’s doing ok sleeping at night. Normally only waking once around 3 AM then up again around 5:30. I use the term “normally” loosely. Last night she had me up 3 times.

Her favorite place in the whole house is her changing table. She’s completely content just to lie there for minutes at a time.

She’s been smiling for a couple of weeks now. And she’s starting to coo a little bit now too.

I swear her eye lashes grow longer every day. Her hair is starting to lighten up a bit. It may end up being more auburn than we originally thought it would be.

She is finally big enough for cloth diapers which makes my wallet happy. Though today I’ve been lazy and just used disposables. But I’m not complaining at all because she has totally wrecked almost every diaper shes had on today.

She LOVES hanging out in our Ergo baby carrier. That thing is a magic worker! I swear I don’t know how people with more than one kid can get by without baby wearing. I wear her at the grocery store. I wear her outside while Ry is playing. I wear her around the house. Super convenient.

Ry still thinks her baby sis is the cats pajamas. Always wanting to be all up in her business. Always wanting to hold her. Always wanting to get up from the dinner table to go check on her. She does get kinda pissy if Reese cries too loud during her cartoon time though.

That’s all the update time I have for now. Hopefully once I’m back at work we’ll be in a bit more of a routine and I’ll be back to my old self.

Of course no update post would be complete without photos…

Something for Earth Day

It’s no surprise that we like love to spend time outside…it doesn’t matter what we’re doing, we all just love to be outside. And, part of enjoying the outdoors is helping keep it enjoyable right?

We recycle. We compost. We leave our campsites/picnic areas cleaner than they were when we arrived. We don’t litter. In fact, I know we’ve given some random strangers some pretty good chuckles in grocery store parking lots when Rylee notices trash on the ground and very loudly says “MOMMY! Somebody littered! They should not do that! They should use the trash!”

But, I’ve never been one to “do anything” for Earth Day.

When I was at Toyota Headquarters back in Feb/March, they talked a lot about their philanthropic efforts…they really “walk the walk” as a company when it comes to their environmental efforts. And it really inspired me.

I mean, they freaking recycle their billboards and make really cool tote bags, for goodness sakes!

I knew I had to do something to follow their lead.

When I realized that Earth Day was coming up, I reached out trying to find some local volunteer things we could do as a family. Granted, I didn’t look too hard, but it seemed like everything was either on Saturday when we’d be out of town, or at least two hours away.

I figured since this was my/our first official Earth Day “excursion” we’d keep it simple and start small. We all have to start somewhere and something is better than nothing, right? So, when we got home from the coast, we lathered on the sunscreen and headed outside with a trash bag.

While waiting for Andy to finish up mowing the front field yard, we took some time to stop and smell the roses lawn daisies. We even made Ry a daisy chain.

After he was done, we took our trash bag and headed out to the road where we picked up litter up and down the road.

To be honest, living on a dead end country road I was really surprised at how much stuff we found…especially considering we did a pretty small stretch. A few little car parts, a beer can, candy wrappers and other random trash. Seriously disappointing.

Even though we didn’t do anything earth shattering or ground breaking, I’m glad we were able to get out and do something. It’s never too early to start teaching little ones about taking care of where we live and I’m thinking next year, we’ll make it a goal to do our ENTIRE road!

Crap, know what I just realized? Earth Day next year, I’ll be toting around a NINE MONTH OLD!

That just blew my mind a little bit.

Did you get out and do anything for Earth Day?
