Weekend Happenings

You know those weekends that are so perfect you don’t want them to end? Yea…THAT.

That was my facebook status Sunday evening and it was oh-so true. The weekend was great. So great.

While it didn’t start out quite like we had originally anticipated, as in, our weekend plans completely changed, it worked out so well.

We got the news on Friday afternoon that our washing machine was beyond repair, meaning “Shopping for a new washing machine” was officially at the top of our agenda. There was also a Costco trip as well as a stop at our everyday grocery store that we needed to throw in. We got all that taken care of Saturday morning and were home before lunch!

The girls and I hung out for the afternoon {where hung out means I slow cooked ribs on the grill.} while Andy went and bought supplies for our chicken coop. Then we had friends over for a BBQ…hence the ribs. The kids ran around outside looking for bugs. The guys played a few games of donkey balls ladder ball. Reese loved hanging out in the grass watching everything. Good friends. Sunshine. Good food. And an adult beverage. It was a blast.

We topped the evening off by having a “campout” in our living room with Rylee.

Sunday morning was lazy. Many games of peek-a-boo were played among sisters while Andy and I watched as our hearts turned to mush. We weren’t really up and moving until 11 or so. After that it was go-go-go. Andy was working outside on the tractor and such. While Reese napped, Rylee and I got a head start planning her birthday party. {She’s decided on Angry Birds, in case you were wondering.} After lunch Ry headed out to work on the tractor with Andy. Reese & I headed into town where we hit up Target for exciting things like dog food and vitamins. Then we went to Bi-Mart and I spent some time {and money! HOLY CRAP I always forget how much flowers cost} and picked up some flowers for my raised bed. After we got home we spent the next couple of hours outside planting.

Not being able to do laundry and having your dinner guests from the night before clean your kitchen really opens up the agenda.

Dinner was easy and so good. Tortellini, chicken and pesto. I always forget how much I love tortellini and pesto {both individually and together}. I need more of both of those things in my life. Turns out Reese feels the same way about tortellini…homegirl couldn’t shovel it in her mouth fast enough.

Kids were in bed, the TV was turned off and Andy & I were passing out by 9 PM. Great weekend.

How was yours?

Where Nothing Means Everything.

It’s hard to believe that it’s already Wednesday. It’s also hard to believe that almost a week ago now I was waiting to board a plane for an adventure I surely never thought would ever become a reality.

Hands down, last weekend was one of the best weekends of my life. I met up with three other women, lovingly known as The Thread, for a kid-free weekend. A weekend long girls night out. A weekend filled with no plans other than to do absolutely nothing.

That nothing? Meant everything to me and is now a memory that I will hold close to my heart forever.

Alicia, as per the usual, said everything I was thinking and in a way far better than I could have myself.

So, first, check out a few of my favorite photos from the weekend, then go read her post…because if copyrights and plagiarism weren’t a thing, I’d totally just copy and past her words right here.

Wordless Wednesday: Easter Sunshine Babies

I don’t have the words today…partly because I wrote a lot of them yesterday and partly because I’m way too excited about my trip to Arizona {!!!!} to concentrate on…well…pretty much anything. So today, you get a few more photos from the Easter Egg Hunt we hosted on Saturday.

Reese & Loretta {Et from Ot & Et} were chummin’ it up sharing their eggs.

Reese seemed to enjoy her first time hanging in the grass…and also enjoyed trying to move in on her sister’s loot!

First Annual Egg Hunt

So one night a couple of months ago, Andy & I were lying in bed and he said, “you know what would be fun?”

Then I told him I was too tired.

Then I laughed  and laughed, because sometimes I’m witty.

Anyway, he told me he thought it’d be fun to host a big Easter Egg hunt for all of our friends and their kids. Emphasis being on, “our friends”. He wanted to put on an egg hunt for adults. I was game.

So an evite went out, plastic eggs & goodies were procured.

All in all, we stuffed and hid around 500 eggs…just over 150-ish eggs for the adults filled with scratch-it tickets, candy and other stuff like seed packets and fishing lures. All the rest were for the kiddos filled with candy, change and various goodies like temporary tattoos and stamps.

Andy zoned off an area around the play structure for the kids, complete with traffic cones and twine. Then he & Rylee hid all the adult eggs back in the trees. I stayed at the play structure with the kids when the adults went on their “hunt” so I didn’t get any photos, WOMP.

We had 12-14 kiddos and about the same number of adults that came out. We kept lunch simple with a build your own sandwich bar. We spread out some blankets and all the kiddos picnicked outside before the big egg hunt.

The weather was gorgeous and we’re pretty sure everyone had a good time.

We can’t wait to do it again next year!

This weekend rocked so hard.

Oh man, last week drained me. I was ready for the weekend. And the weekend? Did not disappoint.

Saturday morning was pretty laid back…Andy worked outside for a bit while I hung out with the girls. While Reese napped Rylee & I had a tea part picnic then packed up a real picnic lunch. The whole family piled in the car and headed into town. While I got my hair cut, Andy took the girls to a nearby park where they played. After I was done, they picked me up and we ate lunch out of the back of the car.

After lunch, we headed down to the fairgrounds for the big home & garden show. It was packed! We strolled the aisles looking at ideas for a chicken coop and for our back patio we’ll be putting in this summer. {side note: Can I just point out that this will be the first year that we’re able to spend money on Our OWN house instead of dumping money into our rental! Holy crap we’re excited.}

Apparently the home show was just too much excitement for the girls because they both passed out while we were walking around. I had Reese in the ergo and Andy was carrying Ry. He got the short end of the stick on that deal!

On our way home from the home & garden show, Rylee was chattering away, then out of the blue said, “I’m so glad we’ve had a family day today.”

Back at home Andy went back to work outside while Ry played in the SUN! I tried to pick up the house a bit. After Reese woke up from her afternoon nap, I fed her, then Ry and I loaded back up and hit the road. We picked up my dad then went up to Corvallis for the OSU women’s gymnastics meet. For the first 20 minutes or so, every time the gymnasts did something {anything} she’d stare in amazement and half-whiper “whoaaaa”.

Ry did pretty well, only asking to go home just before the very end. It was about an hour past her bedtime and she was beat. But apparently on the walk out to the car she got a second wind because she was awake the entire 45 minute drive home asking my dad to tell her stories about when he was little. It was just as heart-warming as it sounds.

Yesterday was spent working around the house trying to catch up on everything that didn’t get done on Saturday. Andy worked outside all day {country living folks, the work never ends!} while I took the girls grocery shopping, then came home and busted out 6 loads of laundry, cleaned out the fridge, cleaned the kitchen, made some baby food for the week and a bunch of other random stuff.

We topped off the weekend with enchiladas for dinner and fresh brownies for dessert!

My soul needed the weekend is a serious way…sunshine, family fun mixed with just the right amount of work.

How was your weekend?
