Radio Scilence

You know the saying “if you don’t have anything nice to day, don’t say anything at all”? Yea, that’s pretty much been me this week.

After coming off of the high from last weekend, this week was just kind of…meh.

We had an epic food battle with Rylee that spanned 4 different meals over 3 days all over food that she has always loved that she suddenly decided she didn’t like . Uh yea…not gonna fly in our house, kid. Long story short, and leaving out details that would get me judged by even the strictest of parents, those days? Sucked hard. And meal times and the time following? Were not fun at all.

I took Rylee in to the Allergy specialist yesterday for some allergy testing. After playing outside on Saturday, she came in the house and almost instantly started sneezing, coughing and had a leaky nose. And, since we live right next to the county literally known as the “GRASS SEED CAPITOL OF THE WORLD!” allergies here are bad…really, really bad. She was tested about 2 years ago and everything was fine then, but I wasn’t sure how often they recommend testing kiddos, so I went ahead and took her in. I tell you what, my kid is a trooper. She got a lollipop, a funky sea-urchin type ring and a sticker. She shared the sticker with her baby sister.

And bonus! No allergies!! The doctor did say that all the pollen in the air can be an irritant, hence the allergy like symptoms, but Rylee does not have allergies. Thank goodness, because my allergies start to drive me crazy this time of year.

After fighting all week with what I thought was a nutso allergy attack has turned into a cold. Last night I was miserable and ate a bowl of cereal for dinner. Today I’ve got a sinus headache that really needs to go fly a kite.

On top of all that, work was kind of stressful this week and just well…not fun.

But hey! It’s Friday! Rylee wants to have a family movie night picnic dinner in the living room tonight. We’re going to watch Balto. And yes, it’s even on VHS.

Tomorrow our little family of three is headed to the coast and meeting my sister and her fiance. The weather is supposed to be pretty nice. The condo is on the beach. We may hit up the Marine Science Center. Rylee has requested we build a sand castle. There’s talk of fresh fish for dinner.

Sunday is Earth Day…I’m thinking after we get home from the coast we may strike out on a walk along our road and pick up litter or something. A little exercise, a little good deed. Win-win, right?

Long story short? I am so thankful today is Friday because I’m ready to have nice things to say again!

Ready for the races…well, mostly.

Oh.My.Gosh. This weekend was gorgeous!

After running some errands and visiting with our “second family” for a while in the morning, we went home, ate lunch and after Ry’s nap we spent the entire rest of the afternoon outside!

We even took Ry’s bike outside. You know…the one she got for Christmas and has been riding it in the house ever since. {Yep, apparently we’re those parents}

Turns out, when you get pretty good at riding your little bike on carpet you’re a rockstar on the road.

But? It also turns out that when you learn to ride your bike on carpet, you have to constantly keep pedaling in order to keep moving forward and that’s not so much the case on the smooth ground. Learning the art of coasting is sort of a tough concept for an almost 4-year-old to grasp.

This would be the look of determination…in case you were wondering. Those fingerless riding gloves kill me!

Ok seriously!? These two and their smiles. I love their excitement here! {And oh yes, that’s my hubby…the poster boy for Pepsi, Carhartt and Crocs. The only thing missing are his Oakley’s.}

More determination. She was pedaling uphill…very serious stuff.

Daring dog was daring. I was totally waiting for him to take one more step and end up completely under water!

Oh yes, and then there’s me…well, my shadow anyway.

It was a perfect day.

I totally overdid it though, because Sunday I woke up and was pretty sore and I had a headache. Boo.

We pretty much took it easy for the day.

But, I did made these creamy chicken taquitos for dinner and let me tell you…SO good and pretty easy. Next time I make them I will be doubling the recipe and freezing some.

To the moon and the stars and space and all the earth.

My Dear Rylee,

Oh my sweet, sweet girl…

So many people have said that three is harder than two. And I’m not going to lie…they were right. But somewhere along the way lately things have changed.

Don’t get me wrong, you’ve still got plenty of sass to go around and we have our occasional battles, but they are far less than they were just a few months ago. Where there were once regular battles of will, there’s now you hollering at me from the living room to come sit and snuggle with you. And once you get settled in what’s left of my lap, there’s no squirming. There’s just relaxation and your sweet, still dimpled little hands gently rubbing my growing belly and playing with whatever necklace I might be wearing.

I kiss the top of your head and you just nuzzle in closer.

I tell you I love you. You tell me you love me all the way to the moon and the stars and space and all the earth.

Your hugs seem tighter, your snuggles seem deeper and your 1,000-watt smile seems brighter.

You’re so full of life. Always dancing or singing along to your favorite “God CD”. Your curiosity challenges me, your facial expressions kill me and your wit astounds me.

I don’t know if it’s because we’re wrapping up year three and getting ready for the big #4? SO many people have said that 4 is their favorite age for little ones because the sweetness abounds. Or if it’s because on some subconscious level, you know that no matter how hard your daddy & I will try to make things change as little as possible, in just a few short months, things are going to change…a lot. It won’t just be you anymore, so you want to soak up as much mama & daddy time as you can before that happens.

Whatever it is my sweet girl, I’ll take it.

I love you to the moon and the stars and space and all the earth. And back again.

Forever.

Needed a break

These last two days have been filled with who-knows-how-many different windows on my screen open at once. Checking and cross referencing a master list with a master table of content of over 300 items. Naming files and renaming files and making sure I stay in number sequence. Uploading and downloading and scanning. And, and, and…

Just when I thought my eyeballs might fall out of my head a coworker came into my office and was talking about his new-ish grand daughter and how the stage she’s in in so much fun. Of course once he left, I couldn’t stop thinking about baby-baby-baby. So I opened up my iphoto and started looking through Ry’s baby photos…

I mean really!? That kid killed me with the cute!!

I can’t help but wonder what little miss no-name is going to be like. What color hair will she have? Will it be red like Rylee’s? What about her eyes? I wonder how big she’ll be at birth. Will she be a champion sleeper baby like her big sister?

July will be here before I know it!

On the Agenda

It is downright gorgeous out right now. I just had to run an errand for work and I seriously contemplated getting lost on the way back to the office.

While I was driving, I was mentally making a to-do list for this weekend.

Of course there’s the typical things on my list…laundry, dishes, menu planning & grocery shopping, etc…yawn…

But there’s also some other, not-so-typical things on my list…

Brushing your teeth using water leftover from the day...it's just like camping! Only...NOT.

#1-FIX THE PLUMBING PROBLEM! Yep, we’ve got an issue. And not just us, it effects our rental house too. JOY. Country living at.it’s.finest, folks. Typically our water filtration system goes through a cycle every 3-4 days where we completely lose water pressure for about 20-30 minutes. Sometimes an annoyance, but usually no big deal. It’s always done it. So yesterday morning when we lost water pressure before I left for work, I thought nothing of it. Then Andy called me last night, upon beating me home, our renter came out of the house to tell him they’d had no pressure all day long. Awesome. We called a guy…yup, we’ve got a guy for plumbing because we’re cool like that. Anyway, we called him up and he & his family literally dropped everything to come out and help us. They got it fixed. We cheered. Then took them out to dinner as a thank you. By the time we got home? No pressure again. WOMP. Needless to say, our guy and Andy will be back out there this afternoon to try and really figure out what’s going on.

#2-GO TO THE HOMESHOW! It’s supposed to be all crappy and rainy this weekend so we figured to help combat the cabin fever we’d head down to the fairgrounds to visit the homeshow. We have no money to do any renovations but it’s always fun to dream…new patio out back…with a built-in outdoor kitchen, of course. New flooring throughout the house. What do you think about a big pond out back with a firepit? Heck, let’s build a new house while we’re at it! Andy loves this type of stuff and we always pick up good ideas along the way, so why not?

#3-COOKING! My sweet friend Lindsey just gave birth to a beautiful little girl in the wee hours of this morning! So, to try and help them out a little I figured I’d whip up a couple of freezer meals for them. And I may or may not want to love on a fresh baked baby if I get the chance.

#4-GO TO MICHAEL’S & the thrift store! We’re planning on moving Rylee into her “big girl room” during Andy’s spring break. Well, that’s at the end of this month which means I need to get started on a plan. Her favorite colors right now are pink & orange so I’m using that as my inspiration…but planning things that can be easily changed because I know how my girl can change her mind. Ry has asked for pink bed sheets so I’ll pick some of those up at Target or something. My mom’s making her a quilt and I’ve enlisted her help on a Roman style shade too. I’ve been pinning ideas on Pinterest and what not, now I just need to put those ideas into action. {That’s 90% of the problem with Pinterest, am I right!?} I need to pick up some pink paint, some yarn, some glue, a couple of larger size picture frames and whatever else I see that tells me to buy it. Here’s some more of what I’m thinking…

What’s on your agenda for the weekend!?
