Snow Day

Back in December we got a bunch of snow here. It was a Friday and I don’t particularly love driving in the snow/ice if I don’t have to plus we had a busted pipe from the night before so I ended up taking a Snow Day.

Andy and Rylee were stoked to be able to get out and play. Just like driving, I don’t particularly love playing in the snow either, but I do love watching Andy and Ry have a blast and I couldn’t wait to see what Reese would think of her first snow experience.

Our buddy that’s a plumber came out that morning to help fix our broken pipe and he brought his kids so they could all play together after the pipe was fixed. The big kids had a blast…and yes, I’m including Andy and our buddy Jim in that group. Reese? Well that was a whole different story. Homegirl wanted nothing to do with the snow. She had more fun watching the big kids from the window.

Oh well, Maybe next year.

Then the entire next week was super cold and all schools in the area were cancelled…for the entire week.

Hai.

It’s Saturday. I’ve essentially been up since 4 AM, courtesy of a rotten little toddler who amazingly has hardly napped also.

Ry is staying the night with my sister for the first time.

I’ve got loaded twice baked potatoes and Caesar salad on the menu for dinner and we’ve got popcorn and a movie for later.

Andy and I are planning on making it a stay in date night. Assuming I don’t pass out while he’s putting Reese to bed tonight…because…4 AM.

Long story short: here’s a video of my rotten little kid bring ridiculously cute. Hard to be grumpy when I get to hang out with this all day.

Currently

It’s Thursday! So I’m linking up with Ot&Et and Harvesting Kale and their  weekly “currently” post…

Wishing that things were more black and white sometimes.

Typing up a storm lately…seriously…I’m pretty proud of myself for sticking with this NaBloPoMo thing so far. Obviously some posts have been sort of lame, but hey, I’m doing it! And plus also? I’ve been loving it.

Moving messes from one part of the house to another. I had an idea for a post on this, but seriously…my house is chaos. There isn’t a single room in my house, inclding the bathrooms, that don’t ahve some sort of dumb mess in it. I try to keep at least my kitchen/dining room from getting too bad because, like I’ve mentioned before, that just leaves me plain overwhelmed. I decided to start on the rest of the house by tackling Reese’s room. Poor second child, I never finished her nursery before she was born. To my credit, she hasn’t cared at all. But now that she’s a bit older, I figured it was time to start cleaning it up and making it usable for her. I’ve packed up all of the outgrown baby clothes and supplies and 4 giant 50 gal trash bags, 1 box and 3 rubbermaid tubs later, I’ve got it pulled out of her room and ready to give away. Too bad those trash bags have gone from her room to the hallway. Fail.

Thinking about when I’m going to read the first chapter of Lean In for the virtual book club I started with Lindsey. We open up discussion on chapter 1 starting Monday and so far (read: a week ago when I got the book) I read the introduction. I need to get on that.

Laughing a Reese lately…she is full of piss and vinegar and if I don’t laugh I will surely go crazy. She’s got a fire in her eyes and a shit eatin’ grin that cracks me up. She’s doing all sorts of cute things lately like throwing up her hands and cocking her head to the side when you ask her what she’s doing. Like a “who me?” kind of look. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Last night? She took a bite out of an whole, unpeeled avocado…she spit out the skin then proceeded to eat it like an apple…she doesn’t even like avocados. Noted kid…earlier dinner times coming up.

My newest book worm

For as long as I can remember Rylee has been a little book worm…sitting quietly for long periods and just turning the pages. Reese? Not so much. Up until recently, if you found Reese with a book it was either a) in her mouth or b) she was throwing it across the room. Never sitting and “reading”.

All of a sudden, something has changed. She will bring us books and sit down in our lap. She’ll carry a book with her all evening long. She’ll ask to take books in the car. She will sit and let Rylee read to her. And on rare occasions, I will be cooking dinner and look over to find her sitting quietly on the floor amongst a dozen different books looking through each one with great intent.

I don’t know if it was/is her go-go-go attitude or just the fact that we haven’t been as diligent about sitting and looking at books with her like we did with Ry. Probably a little of both. Either way, she has been taking a lot more interest in books lately {and not just as a teether} and I happen to think it is one of the cutest things she does.

{P.S. Do not worry safety patrol…I was not driving when I took this photo.}
{P.P.S. Extended Rear Facing like a boss!}

Oh Reese…{School photos gone bad}

We’ve long since established I won’t be winning any mother of the year awards so I don’t really feel that bad for this post. If you can’t laugh at life when things don’t go according to plan, then I kinda feel bad for you.

But I digress…

When I walked in to daycare to drop Reese of the other day the infant teacher said that pictures had come in and Reese’s were on top of the cubbies. Then let out a kind of evil, knowing giggle. I headed to the cubbies, saw the picture and laughed…loudly. She heard me laugh from down the hall and laughed as well.

I mean…I love my kid and I think she’s adorable, but this photo? Oh my crap…it’s awful. It’s hysterically awful. I’m pretty sure if she knew how to flip someone the bird, she would be.

Thinking back, I remember Rylee’s first school photo being bad as well, so when I was talking to the daycare director about it this morning she dug out Ry’s class picture. And so a side-by-side…20131016-144731.jpg

Rylee was almost 2 1/2 in her photo and Reese was 14 months. Apparently it runs in the family no matter what the age. And no, I still can’t stop laughing.

Do you have an epically awful school picture of your kid? You must share.
