The Calm Before the Storm

After last week’s appointment (and Rylee’s Saturday prediction) I was sure we’d be home from the hospital with Baby Sister here by now!

But alas…it’s Monday afternoon and I am still very pregnant. Very.

It’s like this crazy waiting game now. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate anticipation? I’m a planner. So this whole “not quite knowing when it’s going to happen, but it could be any day” thing? Pretty much just sucks.

I left work on Friday in a really good place. Ducks were in a row. I nearly started crying last night when I was setting my alarm last night for work today.

We made the most of our still-a-family-of-three weekend.

Saturday we headed to the movie theater to see Ice Age {whatever number they’re on} in 3D. For free, to boot! I guess every year our financial planner does some family type thing and this year was a free private viewing of Ice Age in 3D, complete with free snacks! So, yea, at 10 AM we were packed in a theater with a bunch of other people and their kids, stocked up on popcorn and candy and soda to watch our first 3D movie. Fun stuff! After the movie, we headed to Red Robin for lunch, which in retrospect, what pretty much a waste of a perfectly good gift card because we were so full from the popcorn we hardly ate our lunches. Oh well. After that was home for naps! Well, Ry & I napped. Andy worked outside…of course. After naps I tried walking the baby out of me…no such luck.

Sunday we had a leisurely morning of cartoons and french toast for breakfast. Then we packed up a picnic and headed to the park across from the grocery store. Ate, played then hit up the store for a few things then headed home for naps again! And yes, again Ry & I napped, Andy worked outside. After Rylee & I woke up we hung out outside with Andy.

Apparently when you’re busy doing family things and napping and not around social media or your phone, friends and family start to wonder if you’re in labor… Weird, huh?

Mostly? It’s just like this… I’m tired, even though I’m sleeping well. My hips hurt. My lower back aches. And pretty much every single thing I’ve eaten since Friday has given me heartburn…I have never had heartburn before. It sucks. I am currently alternating between being very ready to be done and not able to fathom what life will be like with two kids. TWO! KIDS! Rylee snuggle to the MAX right now. And then throw into the mix my crazy hormones with the realization of I’m probably never going to be pregnant again so this will be the last time I feel baby kicks in my belly.

Yea, I’m pretty much a hot mess.

I promise, when things start happening, you will know.

Not in a gross, weird over-sharing kind of way…but more like a hey we’re on our way to the hospital! kind of way.

But for now? We just wait some more…

Here We Go Again: Less than 2 weeks!

How far along? 38, 3 days
Total weight gain/loss: 33 lbs
Stretch marks? Nothing new.
Maternity Clothes: Neither of the shirts shown are maternity. Though I give no credit to the size of my belly.
Sleep: Been consistent on the up only once to pee thing. There’s been a couple of nights I’ve straight up passed out in the living room before 8:30…it’s like my first trimester all over again!
Best moment this week: getting that much closer to our due date!
Movement: Less movements. She’s running out of room.
Gender: Girl
Labor Signs: There’s for sure “stuff” going on…lots of cramping, more B-Hicks contractions here and there. Official state of the cervix: 2 cm dilated and 90% effaced. BOOM! I’d say baby watch is officially on.
Food Cravings: Nothing, but my general rule these days is “the more food the better”.
Belly Button in or out? Outtie.
What I miss: sleeping on my stomach. Lying down without pain. Walking without pain.
What I am looking forward to: No more un-called-for foot sweat. And a mojito.
Other Goodness: Rylee told me this morning she thinks baby sister is coming tomorrow. So I guess we’ll see if she’s right! Also? FINGERS CROSSED!

Then I got slapped upside the head with boob talk.

So the other night, Andy randomly said to me, “You know you’re the one talking to the kid about breastfeeding, right?”

Of course, I nonchalantly replied, “of course…”

When in actuality, in my head I was thinking, “Oh SHIT, you’re right! How did I not think about this before!?

Rylee is at that stage where she gets things, but doesn’t quite get them. Where she says things but maybe shouldn’t.

She currently thinks “penis” is a bad word and whispers it when saying something like “daddy goes pee from his penis” {insert nervous 4 year old giggles here}. I always respond in a “kid, it’s really no big deal, every guy has a penis and that’s just how they pee” type answer, but yea…I think you get where I’m going with this…

Breastfeeding…

I nursed Rylee for nearly her whole first year. That’s my plan this time around too. It’s obviously going to come up. It sort of already has…Ry talked about getting to feed baby sister in the hospital. I started laying the groundwork by letting her know that for a while only mommy will be feeding baby sister, but she will get to soon. Too vague? Perhaps.

She’s a naturally curious kid. She’s never been around breastfeeding. It’s obviously a natural thing and nothing to be ashamed of, but I’m pretty modest when it comes to things like breastfeeding. With Ry I nursed almost exclusively in her bedroom. If we were anywhere not home, I always had my Hooter-Hider ready to go and I always found an out of traffic area to feed her. And let’s be honest, to a 4 year old who has never been exposed to it, it’s not necessarily the norm. The last thing I want to do is make a big deal about it. But I also don’t want to make such a “no big deal” thing about it that she’s telling everyone she sees, strangers and all, “My mommy feeds my sister with her boobs.” Because I can totally see her doing that. You know what I mean?

Should I be talking to her more about it before sister is born? What do I say? Have you been in this situation? How did you deal with it? Were there books you read to your kiddo? Clips on youtube? Am I making this into a way bigger deal than it should be?

HALP!

Here We Go Again: June Update, I carried a watermelon?

How far along? 36 weeks, 3 days
Total weight gain/loss: +30
Stretch marks? Still with the one right over the top of where my belly-button ring used to be.
Maternity Clothes: DOWN WITH PANTS! I’m officially on the anti-pants bandwagon…they are just plain not flattering or comfortable at this point. Save for one pair of capris, it’s all about stretchy skirts and dresses for me now…assuming this darn Oregon weather decides to cooperate with my movement!
Sleep: The last few nights I’ve only had to get up once a night to pee. It has been glorious.
Best moment this month: Rylee helped me go through more baby stuff last weekend. I started packing a bag for the hospital.
Movement: She’s still on a pretty steady movement schedule…AKA lots of movement.
Gender: Girl
Labor Signs: B-hicks contractions and some cramping these last few days. Oh, and baby girl has been straight-up head-butting my cervix. That’s super fun.
Food Cravings: Must. Eat. All. The. Things.
Belly Button in or out? Outtie.
What I miss: Perhaps you should read this post.
What I am looking forward to: See above. Haha.
Baby Milestones: Baby weighs close to 6 lbs now and the size of a watermelon! At the end of this week she’ll be considered full term!
Other Goodness: Me telling Andy about my cramping/contractions has him on code orange so this weekend (or who knows, maybe he’ll do it today) we’ll get the car seat installed and finish packing our bag for the hospital.

And just for fun, this is the last photo I have of being pregnant with Rylee, so I figured another belly-to-belly was in order!

The Big Sister Bucket List

With less than 4 weeks to go before Baby Sister will be making her appearance, we’ve been trying to squeeze in as much fun as possible lately with a certain 4 year old that is at just the right age to go do ALL! THE! FUN! THINGS!

When I was newly-ish pregnant, we started thinking of things that Rylee would like to do before baby sister was born.

{Now, I’m not the type to become a hermit once this baby is born, but I’m also not the type to go on a Target run or rafting trip with a 3 day old, ya know?}

So, with that, we developed a “Big Sister Bucket List” of sorts.

We started crossing things off our metal list back in April when we hit the beach for the weekend. Then more recently, when Rylee shot her first bow, we hit up her first Em’s Baseball Game {complete with popcorn, a soft pretzel & local ice cream in a batting helmet bowl!} and took her to see her very first movie in a theater {complete with a giant tub of popcorn w/ butter and skittles!}.

We’ve been having fun. {and eating a lot!}

Other things on the list include bowling – car camping – kayaking – shooting her gun for the first time. {All per the kid’s request!}

We’ve already got plans in the works for the camping and shooting her gun.

Bowling will be easy.

Now, anyone have a kayak we can borrow?

{Preferably within the next 2 weeks? HA!}
