On the mend?

Believe me when I tell you that I’m knocking on wood as I say type this…I think we are finally on the mend.

Last week I caught what was going around the office and was down and out through the weekend. Rylee ended up with some version of whatever it was I was fighting on Sunday. Reese ended up having a less than ideal reaction to her immunization a from Monday. Today is the first day all week that all four of us have been at our “assigned locations” (i.e. school & work.)

Friday while I struggled through my work day Andy had the girls. He did all the laundry. Then when I got home that night, he handled making dinner and he put rylee to bed.

Saturday I barely left the couch. Andy took care of the girls, finished the laundry, went grocery shopping and handled bedtime again.

Sunday I bummed around yet again while Andy took care of the girls. During naps that day we got some quiet time to just sit on the couch together and veg. That never happens. It’s amazing what just a couple hours of quiet time together can do for your soul, ammiright!?

I stayed home with the girls on Tuesday. It was one of those days where so many things don’t go right that it’s almost comical…

Neither of the girls had a decent nap. In fact, Ry didn’t nap at all…what child stays home actually sick from school and doesn’t nap!? Reese napped, but only for about 20-25 minutes at a time. I didn’t shower. We watched movies and/or tv all day long and I don’t feel the least bit guilty about it. At one point I actually watched Reese poop so bad I saw it bubble up out the top of her diaper, down the back of her pants and puddle on the carpet.

Then Andy worked late because being the awesome dad/husband he is, he stayed home with the girls on Wednesday so he had plan for a sub.

It was a helluva day and I was thankful that Andy took care of things yesterday because I’m not sure I would have been able to handle another day like that. I got home last night, the kids had napped, he had showered and they were all hanging out and happy. Which always leads me to wonder how does he do it!? That man is amazing and I swear he is a better mother than I am.

Tonight we have to drop the suburban off at the mechanics. So instead of trying to do that and come home and make dinner, we’re going to eat out. We rarely eat out. Especially on a weeknight and definitely not since Reese has started eating dinner at the same time we do. I’m almost getting anxiety just thinking about it. Haha. Kidding.

Kind of.

I am so happy today is Thursday! That means tomorrow is Friday!

Here’s to a weekend where no one is sick!

Ok that whole thing was really random, but really…how does Andy make it all look so easy!?

Six Months!

Homegirl turned 6 months old 9 days ago but had her well-check today. So, here’s a snapshot of Reese at 6 months:

Weight: 16 lbs, 11oz – 50th percentile
Height: 27″ – 90th percentile
Head: 40th percentile

Teeth: Two of them! The first one came in on Jan 11 with the second on breaking through the gums on January 14.
Food: still nursing like a champ, though easily distracted these days. Started introducing solids on January 17. Since then she’s had (and loved!) barley cereal, avocado, squash, green bean, banana and pear. Pretty sure she would eat until she exploded if we let her. That girl loves her groceries.
Movement: Started sitting up on her own a couple of weeks ago. Slowly built up the length of time. She’s already trying to crawl around. I’ve seen her scoot and army crawl forward to get something out of reach.

Other: Bedtime is between 7 & 7:30. She is solidly in 6 month clothes and even wearing some 9 month stuff thar made it into her dresser by mistake and that I’m too lazy to take out. everything goes in her mouth these days. She’s constantly reaching for shiny things. She’s recently discovered Dante. Safe to say she is obsessed with him. If he’s in the house she’s either looking at him or for him. She loves to be held while I play tug-o-war with him. She is still Rylee’s biggest fan.

And she is still the happiest girl I know.

Poo

I spent last weekend, through Monday, in San Francisco for a tradeshow. If just so happens my sister lives there so I got to spend some time with her as well. More on that later, though. I ended picking up a bug while I was down there and now? I feel like a steaming pile of poo. Hence the lack of blogging this week.

But, that’s not actually why this post title is poo.

Last week we started Reese on solids. Anyone that’s ever introduced a baby to solid foods knows that there’s quickly a drastic change in the #2 department.

So last night we’re all sitting at the table for dinner and Reese starts…ummm…filling her drawers. She was making hilarious faces, so I kind of giggled and said, “Looks like Reesie is filling her drawers.”

Ry, without looking at her sister, looked at me and said “how do you even know that!?”

I said, “I can tell by the faces she’s making.”

Rylee looked over at her sister who was still doing her thing, and without skipping a beat says, “whoa Reese, you look angry!

Andy & I then preceded to erupt in laughter while both girls looked at us like we were crazy.

Rereading this now, it really doesn’t seem all that funny I guess…but it was. I swear it was.

I’m officially not allowing myself to post again until I feel better, because that whole thing was just kind of a hot mess that sounded a whole lot better in my head than it does typed out. Whatever. I’m sick.

And thus concludes today’s poop post.

Working with style – Owning the Awkward

20130118-104919.jpgRight now I’m in sunny {read: sunnier than Oregon, at least} San Francisco working a tradeshow and hanging out with my sister.

Today I’m also hosting the working with style linkup over on Liberating Working Moms.

And in true Kat style, I’m hamming it up. Owning the awkward that comes when you take photos outside of a restaurant on one of the busiest roads in town, during the lunch hour. It’s a gift I have, really. And if you know me, then you know that some things never change, my friends.

Feel free to click through, check it out, and heck, even link up with me!!

Happy Monday, Friends!

A little dream I keep

I have this dream I keep tucked away in my back pocket. I’ve never really told anyone about it, yet I think about it quite often.

I think it’d be a fun adventure to turn our rental house into a bed & breakfast.

I feel like there will come a time where we will no longer need to rent the house out, yet neither one of the girls will be ready to live there.

It wouldn’t take much, just some furniture, really.

With the way the house is set up, it actually lends itself to a B&B set-up quite nicely. 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms. Each room could have it’s own private sitting area. The kitchen is nice & spacious and there’s a big dining room that I can just picture a nice big country table in the middle of.

I love to cook and entertain. I could cook breakfasts with eggs, fruits & veggies harvested right from our own backyard.

Our property is beautiful. I would love to share it with others as a peaceful weekend getaway. A little piece of country living.

We live within mere minutes of some amazing wineries. We’re within an hour of the pacific ocean.

Guests could spend their days wine tasting or hiking or visiting the ocean and spend their evenings enjoying a beverage of their choice while relaxing and watching the sunset off the back balcony that happens to have the perfect view.

People from across the county, who knows, maybe even from around the world, could share their stories with us. Write their names in our guest book. Leave a mark on our lives.

But I don’t know…it’s all kind of silly. It’s just something I daydream about sometimes.
