My grossest parenting moment yet

I officially had my grossest parenting moment a few weeks ago. One of those so gross you can’t believe this is real life/can’t help but laugh kind of moments.

Scene: watching Rylee’s TBall game, sitting in the grass eating Subway for dinner.

Keep in mind Reese has been potty training. Overall she does pretty well. So much so we’ve been a bit more brave when it comes to taking her out in public in chonies. But for whatever reason this night was not so awesome…

Oh yes, this is one of THOSE stories. I’m mostly noting it here so I can hold it against Reese when she gets older.

So there we are, sitting on the grass eating Subway. I’m just finishing up my sandwich, about to grab some chips when Reese stands up and proclaims, “I POOP!” Not a crazy thing to hear her say, that girls loves the porta-potties {harf!}. So I say to her, “You need to go potty, Reese?” And she responds with “NO I POOP!” and proceeds to motion toward her butt. Where I look and see the silhouette of something definitely poop-like through her leggings.

Oye.

Andy offers to take her to the car to get her changed, but he’s not done eating and I am, so I get up. At first I let her walk toward the car. It’s a pretty far walk and as we go along I see her leggings start to get…saggy.

We need to speed this up.

I pick her up, trying carefully not to put any pressure on her little bum. At some point during the longest walk to the car in the history of mankind she gets a little wiggly so I need to adjust her. I look down at my arm and sure enough my sweater cuff has poop on it.

Yup, the poop has soaked through her underwear. And pants. And onto my sweater.

Keep cool, Kat. Don’t panic. Hurry hurry to the car.

We finally get to the car. Thank goodness we keep extra towels back there! I have the foresight to take off her socks and shoes before we…proceed. I can’t decide if I want her to stand up or lie down.

So I won’t go into too much detail but trust me. It was…gross. So much so that I went through every single baby wipe in the diaper bag and still could have used a few more.

As for her pants and underwear? Yea, I put those bad boys in a plastic bag with the wipes, picking them up like a dog walker picks up dog poop in the park, and that bag went straight into the outside garbage when we got home.

STRAIGHT TO THE TRASH.

It was that gross.

Then she got a bath.

We never did make it back to finish watching the TBall game.

The end.

I hope I never, ever have to go through something like that again. Ever.

Six Whole Years

I swear I didn’t forget about my kid’s birthday this year. Life has just been hectic and such.

Her birthday came and went like a blur. We had our first ever not-at-home party and it was pretty great. We did a bowling party, complete with little plastic bowling trophies for each of the 9 kiddos.

After her friend party we headed home and had the family over for Tacos (of course).  All in all a good day and my girl was feeling the love.

As for her 6-year interview? I love doing these things…every year I ask some of the same standard questions, then some Facebook friends chime in with questions they’d like me to ask her.

This is officially the 4th year I’ve done the interview and I think I’m going to go through some of the previous interviews and see how her answers have changed over the years. Don’t worry, I’ll report back.

Oh Boy! 20 Weeks

Well, here we are officially 20 weeks into this pregnancy. It’s more than halfway over at this point, so I figured it might be time to do some documenting or something. Let’s start with the standard crappy iPhone bathroom bump selfie that’s already over a week old.

How far along? 20 weeks, 2 days {photo above at 19 weeks}
Total weight gain/loss: +6 lbs
Stretch marks? None on the belly, sadly my ass didn’t get the memo that we are anti-stretchmark. Though no guarantee they are from this particular pregnancy.
Maternity Clothes: Made the move to mostly maternity pants somewhere between 18 and 19 weeks. Regular tops are still ok.
Sleep: I feel like I have narcolepsy this time around…it could also be the fact I’ve got two other kids keeping me busy. Overall I’m sleeping really well right now…thanks to the sheer exhaustion. I could be up anywhere from 0-3 times a night to pee…but that’s also dependent on whether or not Rylee and/or Reese wake me up in the middle of the night. Basically, if I get woken up, I have to pee.
Best moment this month: Finding out it’s a boy! That’s a moment that I will never forget.
Movement: So much. Most active when I am driving to work in the morning. First kicks were felt at 15 weeks. No one has been able to feel them from the outside yet but the kicks are getting stronger and stronger so it’s just a matter of days, I’m sure.
Gender: It’s a BOY!

20140519-151337-54817064.jpg
Labor Signs: Nope
Food Cravings: Nothing in particular. Early on I was all about cereal…so much like my pregnancy with Rylee.
Belly Button in or out? Neutral…but to my poor belly’s credit, it never went back to normal after I had Reese.
What I miss: Alcohol. Which is so weird considering I never really missed it during my other two pregnancies.
What I am looking forward to: Andy being able to feel his SON kick. :)
Baby Milestones: Baby is about the length of a banana and, according to our ultrasound, weighs about 11 ounces.
Other Goodness: I braved my very first garage sale over the weekend. It was a sale for all things kid/baby. I went without many expectations and was able to find a few cute onesies but the big score was a Pottery Barn bedding set for $15! It boyish, but not crazy boyish. It’s white with old-fashioned airplanes on it with red& blue  and yellow & green accents. It will work well with our already yellow wall and other yellow and green things like changing pads, glider-rocker, etc. It’s super cute and it happens to go perfectly with a model airplane of the plane Andy’s grandfather flew in WWII that Grandpa himself made.

Taco Tuesday

We’ve been pretty die-hard Taco Tuesday fans in our house for a while now…so long that I can’t actually remember when it started. Over the course of our Taco Tuesdays we’ve even converted a number of people to following along. It often comes up in conversation at daycare drop off or pick up…especially on Tuesday {go figure}.

A few weeks ago, one of Rylee’s friends at daycare asked if she could come over for Taco Tuesday sometime. I laughed, and told her absolutely and I’d chat with her mom about it. We had a Taco Tuesday date set for the following week. Then Rylee had a TBall game that night so we rescheduled for the following week. Then Reese ended up with HFM so we rescheduled, yet again, for the following Tuesday.

Well, that Tuesday was this last Tuesday and the stars aligned and third time’s a charm and such and we made it happen! This is also kind of a big deal because it was both girls’ first time having a “without parents staying” playdate.

It was so much fun to watch the girls play together. They were glued at the hip. They, of course, excluded Reese which kind of made me chuckle because…little sisters. When her mom came to pick her up I had a serious flashback to when I was 6 years old and my best friend would come over. {We would always, always hide her in my closet and tell her mom that she wasn’t here anymore in hopes that she could stay longer. Go figure, it never worked.} Rylee hid her friend in hopes of getting her to stay even just a little longer.

We all decided a sleep over should happen soon.

I know I’ve said it before, but I am loving this school-age stage that Rylee is in! So many fun milestones to watch her experience.

Oh boy!

The day Rylee found out we were going to have another baby she was clear she wanted a brother. This whole time I’ve been sure that this will would be another girl.

The other night Rylee was trying to convince me to let her skip school and come with us to the ultrasound. We stuck to our guns and told her we would think of a fun way to tell her tonight before her tball game.

It was all a little rushed and not exactly pinterest-worthy but so indicative of where we are at as a family right now. And so…

So yep. We’re having a boy!

I have no words. We are over the moon. Today was an amazing day. And Andy’s birthday to boot.

Yep. A good day indeed.
