Category Archives: Here we go again

Extended Weekend? Sort of.

Ry & I are home today. But not because we had planned on taking an extended long-weekend. Her mysterious non-stop cough is back. Along with a leaky faucet nose and a wheeze that just won’t die.

So we’re hanging out on the couch. She’s got a sippy full of juice and I’ve got a cup of coffee. We’ve got cartoons on and the Kindle Fire is charged. I’m hoping she’ll just naturally take it easy today…

Ha.

Hahaha.

So far so good though.

Later on today we’ll head out to pick up her inhaler prescription, buy a new humidifier (hers took a dump this morning) and I have my 32 week appointment for Baby Sister today.

Looking back on the weekend, I feel like we did both nothing and everything. If that makes any sense at all.

We went over to my uncle’s house for a BBQ celebrating my cousin’s college graduation. We went grocery shopping. We had a family movie night, popcorn and staying up way past bedtime included. We played legos…lots and lots of legos. We went to a birthday party on Sunday. Andy & Ry put together the crib. We pulled stuff out of Baby Sister’s closet that didn’t need to be there. The nursery is more trashed than it was last week, but I’ll still consider it as progress. We cuddled. We gave foot rubs. We had a lazy day on Monday. We slow-grilled baby back ribs. We made a double batch of creamy chicken taquitos all to freeze. Bonus: there was enough filling leftover to make them for dinner tonight!

See what I mean? We did a lot, but it was just enough to still feel like a relaxing weekend. Exactly what this little family needed!

Hope you had an amazing weekend!

Here we go again: May Update

How far along? 30 weeks, 1 day
Total weight gain/loss: +18 {good thing I’m tall…I’ve got lots of…err…area to spread out those L-Bs}
Stretch marks? Still none.
Maternity Clothes: All in on the maternity pants, but with this warmer weather I’m getting away with a few non-maternity stretchy skirts. Still about 50/50 on tops.
Sleep: Not that great. Anytime I try to roll over I get shooting pains in my pelvic bone. It’s super fun.
Best moment this month: Hitting the third trimester! This last month has been pretty uneventful, thankfully.
Movement: Still very active.
Gender: Girl
Labor Signs: Yes? I think? Maybe? I never had any braxton hicks contractions with Rylee, but I think I’ve been starting to get them the last few weeks.
Food Cravings: The cravings seems to be leveling off this trimester, thankfully…my sweet tooth was out of control last couple of months!
Belly Button in or out? Turkey timer has popped, folks.
What I miss: Sleeping through the night. Bending over easily. Wearing my engagement ring and wedding band.
What I am looking forward to: We are taking Rylee on the sibling hospital tour this weekend! And, I’m pretty sure we’ll start getting her room ready this month. And maybe we’ll finally decide on a name? I thought we had it, but we’re pretty much back to square one.
Baby Milestones: Baby’s bone marrow has taken over production of the red blood cells and her brain is working overtime developing like crazy now. Baby weighs close to 3 pounds at this point and is about 16 inches long.
Other Goodness: We’ve hit the “every other week” appointment mark. I’ll pre-register at the hospital this weekend when we’re there for the tour. I had one “semi-stranger” {someone Andy knew, that I had just met} ask if they could touch my belly…it wasn’t quite as weird as I thought it’d be. That never happened with Rylee. Oh and! I’ve decided I love going out to Andy’s school because all the ladies ask how far along I am then tell me how tiny I am…it’s a nice confidence booster. ;)

Belly to Belly

With only 10 weeks to go {yes, TEN! Crazy, I know!} I thought it’d be fun to do a side-by-side comparison of my two pregnancies so far. Kind of fun to see the differences between the two!

The time I made some “make love not war” hippies want to pummel me

There I sat, cross legged on a yoga mat.

Lights dimmed. Candles lit. Light, relaxing music playing in the background.

I’d been going to prenatal yoga for months now, so the whole “go around the room, say your name and how far along you are” thing was nothing new. But today, the instructor threw something else out there…

In a soft, sing-songy voice she said, “Say your name, how far along you are and share with us what you are most looking forward to during the labor process…”

We started at the other end of the room.

Women began sharing…

“I’m Marsha, I’m 20 weeks this coming Tuesday and I’m most looking forward to the feeling of empowerment that will come from giving my baby life!”

“I’m Nancy, I’m 32 weeks, and I am looking forward to feeling everything during my drug-free laboring process.”

“I’m Susie, I’m 27 weeks with my second child, and I can’t wait to labor & birth my baby in water this time.”

As we snaked our way around the room the answers all pretty much sounded that way…every lady was looking forward to feeling liberated and empowered and insert some other hell-yea I’m a feminist! Fist bumps & solidarity for all adjective here.

Then it got to me…

The girl that always sat in the back.

The girl that never really “ommm-ed” as loud as everyone else.

“I’m Katherine, I’m {insert number of weeks here, because I don’t remember} along and what I’m looking forward to during the labor process is…

::I paused…I let out a little chuckle and gave a side eye::

Well, I’m looking forward to it being over.”

…  …  …

You could’ve heard a pin drop.

The look of horror on those ladies’ faces is something I will never forget.

{And yes, I’m kind of proud of myself for that.}

Oh hello there third trimester!

Seriously…are you as shocked to read that as I am to say/type it.

How can it be?

This pregnancy has really flown by.

Less than 90 days, folks!

I really don’t have much more to say than that, really. My next appointment is on May 15 and I’ll do my usual pregnancy update then.

For now, I’ll leave you with this…

I’m headed to Chicago next week for work and I’m scared out of my mind I’ll puke on the flight like I did during my second trimester when I went to PA.

I have to go in and get my gestational diabetes screening done this week. Blech.

At times, I feel like my pelvic bone(s) are going to rip in two. No joke, at one point last week as I was getting up from putting Ry to bed, my first step dropped me to the floor and I had to crawl out of Rylee’s bedroom.

My belly button is pretty much well an outie at this point. Yep, the turkey timer has popped, folks.

It’s not all bad things though, promise. I love feeling the kicks and jabs…even when they do hurt! haha. Just like when I was pregnant with Rylee, I really have nothing to complain about…things are going well.

Oh yea, and how about a side by side of me wearing the same shirt 7 weeks apart…

21 weeks vs 28 weeks

BOOM! Hello belly and hello home stretch!
