12 Months of Lincoln

I was going to call out which of these are my favorites, but as it turns out they all are. I love all of them for slightly different reasons from newborn squish, old man sweaters, to discovering feet, to gummy smiles, to toothy grins, to so.much.personality. I know I’ve said it before but this boy… he owns my heart!

Lincoln at 18 Months

How is my little man 18 months old!? We had his well check this morning, so I thought it’d be fun to do a quick update! This boy is super laid back and so happy… Unless you’re doing something he doesn’t want you to do or he’s doing something you don’t want him to. Ha.

It’s been a little while sine I’ve done one of these, so there’s more than a little bit to catch up on. (A recap of the monthly pics might be fun!)

Lincoln started walking at 11 months old and it didn’t take him long to start running. Andy and I have so much fun watching him run after/play with his sisters. He really idolizes them (especially Rylee). Unless Reese is trying to boss him around. Then he yells no at her. Sometime followed by hitting, pushing or hair pulling. Good times! But his sweet side shows any time he sees or hears one of his sisters crying. He immediately stops whatever he is doing and goes right to them, puts his face inches from their face and rubs their back or pays the top of their head.

Homeboy was rocking a pretty solid mullet until his first haircut at 13 months old. To be honest, the poor kid needed a haircut at 9 months, but his mullet was just too good to not make part of his Halloween costume. So We (I) dressed him up as Joe Dirt. Fricken hilarious! Since then he’s had 3 haircuts and is due to get another this weekend. So far I’ve done all of them. They never look that great but his hair is so blonde and so fluffy yet wirey it doesn’t make much of a difference.
He says a number of words and has even said a sentence – “I want more!” Words include: please, up, no, mama, daddy, Dante, Rylee, Ry, Reese, hi, bye, more, cheese, night night. His first word was Dante. Just like his sisters.

The stats: height: 32″ (34th percentile), weight: 22 lbs, 15 oz (31st percentile)

Likes: me (I’m still his favorite!), playing outside, pretend cooking, dancing, sword fighting, Dante, brushing his teeth, baths, messing with you if you’re lying on the floor.

Dislikes: being told no, Meat that’s not ground beef covered in taco seasoning, Drinking milk out of anything other than a bottle (Too bad that’s gonna change as of today no more bottle. Cold turkey.) Getting pushed around by his sisters, Me putting him down.

Sleep: He may have taken the longest to sleep through the night, but he’s making up for it now. He goes down for bed SO easily. At bedtime, as soon as his PJs are on, he makes his rounds to the family giving loves and waving good night. Then I take him into his room and we sit in the rocker. Within seconds of rocking he points to his crib. So I kiss him goodnight and put him in his crib. As I turn around to walk out, he blows me kisses, waves and says “night!”  I miss the snuggles but I love the easy routine.

I really have no words to describe how much I love love love this little man. He has my heart. I just… I’m his biggest fan. And I think I always will be.

Life Update

I think it’s time to get back to the basics. When I first started this blog (over SIX years ago!) the whole point was to keep friends and family, near and far, up to date on the life and times of Little Miss Rylee. Then people other than friends and family started reading the blog, I started posting 3-5 times a week, making a little money and somewhere along the way I lost touch with why I started blogging. Between that and life getting more and more busy I just got overwhelmed with this space and the unrealistic expectations I’d set for myself.

And so here we are.

Getting back to the basics I figured I’d start by trying to give some life updates on the family. On a semi-regular basis maybe?

Rylee continues to kick serious booty at school. Sure, she is smart, but she also works really hard. I love that about her. She’s reading at almost a third grade level. Her math skills are just about off the charts. Like, literally. Her 2nd quarter state math tests put her in the 98th percentile. Yes, in the state. She continues to blow me away and at the rate she’s going she’ll be better than me at math by the time she’s out of elementary school. Other than school, she still loves art, Taylor Swift, board games, playing mine craft on her ipod, and tacos. She tells me her favorite colors are no longer orange and pink. Well, she “still likes, them, but just like not super bright pink or anything.” Her sense of humor is on point. She doesn’t have a boyfriend. She’s lost 5 teeth so far.

Reese is so full of life! A typical 2.5 year old, she is opinionated as all get out. She makes us laugh all the time. And once she knows she’s being funny she is relentless. She will definitely be the class clown. She also gives some killer dirty looks. (Gets that from her mama.) She’s thoughtful and polite and loves to be a helper. I feel like I need to add more here to make her update more even with the other two, alas I can’t think of anything else to report, Sorry future Reese, I’m definitely not helping with that middle child complex.

Andy and I have talked about getting Ry back into gymnastics and trying it with Reese too. I just keep forgetting to look up class times.

Oh and I just remembered something else about Reese. We transitioned her to a toddler bed over Christmas break.

Lincoln is actually asleep on me as I’m typing this. Weekends are for snuggle naps, right? He just had his 4 month well-baby check earlier this week. He’s quite the little peanut – just breaking 14 lbs (19th percentile) and 22.5″ long (34th percentile).  He’s generally a happy guy. His blond fuzzy hair cracks me up. His lashes are to die for. He found his toes! He’s also kind of a jerk. He figured out last week how to knock the binkie out of his mouth and replace it with his thumb. Intentionally. Then he’d smile. He’s rolling over from back to stomach. He’s occasionally sleeping through the night. He definitely favors me over Andy and even though I feel kind of bad for Andy, I’m not going to lie, I kind of love it.

Andy is busy with work and the property, as usual. We had some broken pipes in our pump house last month and like most things with this place, it took way longer to fix than it should have because once he got in there to fix what he thought was the problem, he discovered a bunch of other stuff wrong. It’s exhausting. And expensive! He also cracked a rib or two while he was dealing with all of that so that’s been fun.

As for me? Being back at work full time has been a pretty easy adjustment. My new role is going well. It’s a bit of an adjustment to go from my old role of pretty much just copy writing to managing a team and keeping track of multiple moving pieces. It’s something I used to do at all my other jobs and it’s coming back to me, but there are definitely times where I feel like I have ADHD or something. One of the first things I had to do was plan a marketing retreat. Overall it went well and it felt pretty good to kind of knock it out of the park. I finally figured out how to french braid! I’m losing hair in disturbing amounts. Meal planning is still my sanity keeper. I’ve started taking a Barre style work out class on Saturday mornings. It’s amazing and I love it and if you live in my area, you really should try it out.

And at this point, that’s all I’ve got. As always, I have so many things I want to blog about. Maybe someday.

When your third kid sleeps though the night…

For the last three or so months, every night I’ve climbed into bed thinking “maybe tonight will be the night.” And every night at some point between the hours of 1 am and 3:30 am I’m up feeding Lincoln and thinking, “well, maybe tomorrow night…”

Then like magic it finally happened! Lincoln slept through the night!

The next night as Andy and I were getting ready for bed I was laughing thinking about the differences between the first, second, and third born kids.

When Rylee first slept through the night, she was just 6 weeks old. I remember waking up just after the normal wake up time wondering why she hadn’t cried out yet. After lying in bed for a few minutes and not hearing anything through the monitor, I panicked and I got up and went to make sure she was ok. Of course she was fine.

Fast forward about four years later. Reese slept through the night for the first time at about 10 weeks old. Again, I remember waking up just after her normal wake up time. Not hearing anything over the monitor I went back to sleep, tossing and turning as the night went on, occasionally waking to listen over the monitor.

Fast forward to present day. Lincoln is nearly 4 months old. Thursday night he slept through the night. And I realized it when my alarm went off on Friday morning.

Yup. Mom of the year right here! I never even stirred.

It happened two nights in a row, then he was up once again last night. I’m not expecting this to be an every night occurrence just yet, but I’m not gonna lie, I’m really looking forward to getting back into a regular thing with my good friend REM because it’s been far too long. IMG_8898.JPG

Thirty is…

…Flossing my teeth more. No, still not daily but anything has got to be better than the few days leading up to a cleaning, right?

…Doing the dishes every night. I hate doing dishes.

…Drinking coffee with less creamer. Turns out I really DO like the taste of coffee.

…Fixing my hair instead of just pulling it back wet. Thank you short cut.

…Guiltlessly Letting go of things, and garbage, I know I don’t have time to worry about. I’m looking at you, drama.

…Embracing and appreciating my close friends, near and far. But wishing the far was also near.

…Being more mindful of what I put into my body. Turns out Brussels sprouts are delicious.

I rang in thirty a few months ago but it was more about being able to throw a big awesome party rather than an actual celebration of my birthday. The dirty thirty white trash bash will live on in infamy– and #KatsWTB on instagram.

I know some people that make turning thirty this big, monumental, terrible thing. I’m just not that way. I didn’t stress about it. I love growing older. Life is pretty freaking amazing and it’s just going to continue getting better. Why not celebrate that?

Hey thirties, hey. Can’t wait to see what kind of awesome you hold.

And next year? Mark your calendars for the Dirty Thirty White Trash Bash, part DUH.

Yup. Let’s do this. #KatsWTB
