Here & There: PDX Momma

Pdx Momma
Today while I’m working my butt off at a tradeshow (1 more day!!), I’m also over at Jenn’s place taking part in her Woring Momma Guest Series! I’m talking about our day-to-day, my current struggle as a working mom, best & worst parts of being a working mom and all that good stuff. {I may or may not also gush about how I scored in the husband department!}
Please head over there and check it out!
I “met” Jenn through the Pacific Northwest Blogger website. She’s a working mom based out of Portland, she’s a talented photographer and she loves the beavs! I mean really…what’s not to love!?
Anyway, I hope you get a chance to go check it out!

Best.Email.Ever.

So last week, I made the “big reveal” around these parts. What happened after that was an overwhelming and humbling amount of love & excitement & congrats that I never saw coming. {seriously, thank you for that}

One “congrats” in particular stands out in my mind because it literally made me laugh out loud. And here I am today to share it with you…because seriously, it is that funny.

This email comes from a guy I’ll call Buddy. Mostly because that’s what I normally call him anyway. We used to work together. We clicked instantly and remained friends after we no longer worked together and have remained in contact since he’s moved out of state.

He’s funny and witty and a little bit quirky. We’re a lot of like in that regard and we always laugh a lot. {True story, we had a month long email chain that started with the words “Gobble Boggle” due to a typo, that we both thought was so funny it just stuck.} {Oh, and we also type things like “you aer osum” to each other, based off of an inside joke from 4 years ago}

Ok, anyway, without further adieu, the email exchange that made my week!

Buddy to me:

DUDE! Congratulations! You know why.

Me to Buddy:

Hahahah…thanks dude!

Gobble Boggle! :)
Buddy to Me:
Super exciting! I was wondering when that might happen. Do you have a due date? I don’t know how long that takes to figure out… so maybe that’s a really dumb question. But I’m not afraid of asking dumb questions!
Me to Buddy:
I love you and your questions! July 25 ish will be the day-ish. Hopefully sooner because holy hell it’s gonna be HOT!
Buddy to Me:
Haha! Yeah, no having babies while it’s super hot. That sounds sweaty and gross.

Maybe you’ll get lucky and it will be an unseasonably pleasant day. Or you’ll have the baby somewhere with great air conditioning.
I had the song “Drop it like it’s hot” in my head this morning and now it seems amusingly appropriate (inappropriate?). Hah! I guess for you it might be more like, “drop it while it’s hot.” And also, don’t drop it.
*********
I mean really…how can that not make you laugh!? Especially knowing it came from a 28 year old guy.
Please tell me this made you laugh our I am really going to question my sense of humor.
Oh well, even if you don’t think it’s funny I do. I love my Buddy.

On sibling spacing and brutal honesty

When Andy & I talked about having kids we always knew we wanted them to be about 2 years apart.

It just seemed perfect for so many different reasons.

They’d be each others best friends. It wouldn’t be a tough transition for us because we’d be in a constant state of baby. Blah blah blah.

In all that time, I may or may not have forgotten all of our other reasons.

Well, about the time we were due to start trying for baby #2 our life was flipped upside down with a single phone call and after a very brief discussion, we decided it was best to put our baby plans on hold for a year.

It was the responsible thing to do. Having a 3 year gap between kids wouldn’t be so bad.

Well, what ended up being the hardest year of our lives came and went and when it was “time” again, we took a look at our situation and decided, again, that it’d be best to wait.

And again with the responsibility thing.

I’d be lying to your face parts if I told you I wasn’t upset/mad/hurt/resentful about the entire situation, but we made it through another year and then it was time for a little brown chicken, brown cow, if you know what I mean.

And now here we sit, just starting 2012, with baby #2 FINALLY on the way.

Looking back now, I can tell you it was such a hard, but good decision for our family, and not just financially.

I have adored my time with Rylee being just Rylee. We’ve had so many fun adventures as a family of 3 that I know wouldn’t have turned out the same if we’d been toting a little 2-year-younger sibling.

On the flip side, over the last 2 years there have been more occasions than I care to admit where I’ve struggled with Rylee and thought, “there’s no way I’d be able to handle 2 kids right now. Will I be able to handle 2 kids ever!?”

Remember how I’ve said before everything happens for a reason? I totally believe it.

And really, let’s be real, if we’d stuck with our “2-year-spacing” plan, I’d be missing out on conversations like this:

Rylee: Mom, you’ve got a fat belly.
Me: Oh just wait, it’s gonna get a whole lot bigger!
Rylee: {eyes as big as pie plates} WHOA!

Gotta love kids and their brutal, innocent honesty, am I right!?

For the record? I’m only 12 weeks.

Little Monster…

Happy New Year!

Oh, yes, I’m fully aware I’m about 5 days late on this post, but well…I’ve had other things going on.

Besides baking a baby that has me wanting to go to bed at 7:30 every night, work has been particularly busy these last couple of weeks, as I prep for product launch and tradeshows. Insanity is more like it.

With work being so busy, my lunches, better known as my normal blogging time, has been filled with running errands for work or just plain working through.

And my evenings? Well, those have been reserved for my family.

The long weekend was glorious. It was the perfect mix of productive and lazy. We spent the entire weekend as a family…it was so needed. Saturday we spent the afternoon running errands. And, shockingly enough, I made it all the way to midnight!

Sunday, New Year’s Day, we took down Christmas decorations while Rylee napped. Undecking the halls actually resulted in a major living room and office overhaul, completely rearranging and cleaning everything.

Monday was filled with more cleaning and rearranging. And more laziness. And even spending some time outside…in, get this, the SUN!

Seriously, the weekend was perfect. I mean…when this is your view, how can it not be a great weekend!?

It was the perfect way to start a new year.

Hope your year is off to a great start too!

This Christmas Photo that didn’t Make the Card.

Yep…it’s true! We gave this photo to all of our family on Christmas morning!

Here’s the rundown:

I’m 11 weeks along.

Feeling pretty good. Nausea, yes, much more so than with Rylee, but for the most part nothing unbearable. And of course I’m tired all the time.

Yes, we will find out what we’re having…sometime near the end of February/beginning of March.

Yes, we will tell you what we’re having.

Yes, we will tell you the name we choose…we haven’t even started talking about it yet!

No, I’m not going to do weekly belly photos/updates. I’m thinking monthly. We’ll see.

And with that? I’m going to stuff my face with food…I don’t know why, but I can’t seem to can’t enough lately.
