Working With Style in a New Office

Well last week was my first week in the new office. AKA a real office. With more than 3 other people. And not a barn. Talk about an adjustment! After 5 days, I’m still getting used to it!

Anyway, being in a new, real, office and all I figured I’d better step up the wardrobe…no more jeans & a sweatshirt because I just don’t feel like getting dressed and who’s going to care anyway days. I even busted out the slacks. I know, I know. Total shock to the system, but I forgot how I can rock the slacks.

So, Monday…

Blazer & Necklace: AT LOFT / Undershirt, Jeans & Boots: Target

Tuesday:

My fave cardi & Slacks: AT LOFT / White ruffly button up & Bracelets: American Eagle

Friday (and look! The bathroom in our new office actually has a mirror…OH HAPPY DAY!):

Jacket thing: American Eagle / Red Shirt: AT LOFT

I wore red on Friday to show my support for Women’s Heart Health. Alicia, one of the newest ladies on the LWM team hosted Working With Style, wrote all about it this week. You really should go check it out!

It’s about to get really real up in here.

So here it is Friday again, and I’ve gone another week with only blogging two times.

It’s easy to say work has been busy. Growing a baby is making me tired. There’s never enough hours in the day…blah blah blah.

And while those things are true, I’m kind of experiencing some writer’s block. Not that I really consider myself a “writer”, but I think you know what I mean.

It’s not that there’s been a lack of cute happening around my house, I mean Ry is keeping us on our toes with the things she’s saying/asking lately, but there’s just other things on my mind…things that I don’t normally write about but have been tugging at my heart anyway.

Normally I like to keep things pretty light hearted around here…fun photos and stories, etc but these things on my heart, they aren’t really “fun” and light hearted. They’re somewhat of the serious nature, and some might even say…controversial.

And I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not one for controversy. Or confrontation. Which has the fact that I’m even thinking about writing about these things scaring the ever loving crap out of me. But at the same time, I feel like if I don’t get them out there, maybe those whole writer’s block thing won’t go away and I’ll be stuck in some ugly blogging rut.

Am I even making any sense?

Who knows. But here’s what I do know, I’m going to spend some time tapping out these things that have been on my heart lately and try and get through this rut. Who knows if what comes out of my heart and my head will even make sense, but I’m going to do it anyway.

So, next week bare with me as I get…raw…and real…and put some of my actual, potentially unpopular opinions out there on the interwebs for all to see, and potentially judge. ::shudders::

The Cheese Stands Alone: A Battle of Wills

Anyone that knows my husband will read this next line and think “Uh, duh”. But if you’ve never had the pleasure of meeting him, I’ll fill you in on something…

He is extremely stubborn.

He takes after his father and his grandmother this way.

And our daughter? Well, let’s just say that apple didn’t fall very far from the tree.

I’ve always known she was stubborn, but last night, she let us know just how stubborn she could be.

After waking up from her nap, Rylee decided she’d like a snack. She said cheese and crackers sounded pretty good, and Andy thought so too so he got a snack for both of them. He put some sliced up cheese and a pile of ritz crackers on a plate, then handed Ry a paper towel so she could grab what she’d like. She took a few crackers and one piece of cheese.

She took one tiny bite of the cheese and set it back on her paper towel, then preceded to eat all of her crackers and tell us she was done.

Uhhh…no you’re not. You love cheese. You chose to take a piece, you need to eat it.

No. I don’t want it.

Rylee you will eat that piece of cheese before you get anything else. You can choose to eat it now, while it’s still good or you can choose to eat it before dinner, but it won’t taste as good.

And so, there it sat on the paper towel.

A couple of hours passed and soon it was time to set the table for dinner. One of Rylee’s favorite dinners, by the way…roasted chicken, green beans, and fetuccini alfredo pasta.

The lonely piece of cheese moved from the paper towel to her dinner plate.

Andy was not letting up on this one. And I get it, her eating habits have been horrible lately, saying she wants one thing, then not wanting it 5 minutes later. And things she LOVES too. Frankly, it’s getting old.

Rylee sat there with nothing on her plate but that little bit of cheese until Andy & I were nearly done eating before she finally decided that she wasn’t going to win this one.

She ate choked down the cheese and any 3.5 year old drama queen would do and preceded to eat a fantastic dinner.

Weird.

{And by weird, I mean not weird at all. She is so much like her father, sometimes it’s scary.}

Working With Style…Attack of the Black

This was the one day this week that I’d say I put in an actual effort to look halfway decent. And it wasn’t because I wanted to, it was because I kind of had to. All of my jeans that still fit (all 3 pair) were dirty so I had to get creative. There’s a whole lotta black going on, but I thought it came together pretty well.

Headband: 25Design {Torie just had a baby, so her shop is temporarily closed, but I LOVE her stuff!}
Dress: Gap, borrowed
Cardi: AT Loft
Leggings: Target
Boot Socks: Gift, not sure where they’re from
Boots: Target

The dress is borrowed from my girlfriend. I needed a “nice” dress for a photoshoot for work and I put it on the night before the shoot and it look horrible on me. Seriously awful. It was baggy, yet hugged in all the wrong places…you know the kind. Anyway, it was sitting on the chair in my bedroom this morning,  so I figured I’d give it another go, but add my favorite, go-to cardi with it. It worked! The cardi hid all the nastyness perfetly. And seriously, I know you’re probably like, pfft, whatever Kat, I doubt it was that bad…if you pay me $10 I will take a pic with only the dress and prove it to you. Ok, maybe not, but just trust me, it was bad. And for the record, my friend agreed because she bought it without trying it on 2 or 3 years ago and you the tags were STILL on it when she brought it to me.

I’m linking up over at Liberating Working Moms for our Work with Style weekly series, come join up!

More of the Lately’s…

It’s been another whirlwind of a week and so for this Friday I leave you with a bulleted list of “lately”…

  • Earlier this week I wrote a post about one of our cars and dreaming of getting a new one. Then last night? Andy hit a deer with the Buick on his way home from work. And, aside from part of the grill being broken, you cannot.even.tell. I swear that thing is a tank. {side note, the deer is fine too}
  • I’ve had an annoying cold all week. It’s just barely starting to go away.
  • I made my very LAST student loan payment! And 3 years early to boot.
  • I had to re-re-schedule my ultrasound appointment {seriously, the receptionist remembered (and laughed) at me} But now it’s a whole week earlier! The big day is Feb 14!…holy crap that’s like 2 weeks away!
  • We’re in the middle of moving offices…Like, I leave work today at one office, and show up Monday to the new one. It’s totally throwing me for a loop.
  • I drank coffee this morning. And it was good. I don’t want to jinx it, but I think I’m finally starting to come out of the “morning” sickness stage.
  • Tonight I’m headed to happy hour with a couple of girlfriends! I cannot wait.

I'm really going to miss this view when I leave work.

And this...just because it makes me smile.

Happy Friday Everyone!!
