10-minute update

I just thought “Hey, what a great post title…I could totally make this a thing!” then I remembered how {not so} awesome I’ve been at blogging lately and promptly threw the idea out the window.

But really, I have 10 minutes at my laptop, with no kids to give you an update. While my phone is handy, I really, really prefer blogging from my computer. There’s just something so satisfying about hearing the keys click under my fingers. That, and I hit the delete key a lot less when I’m not typing with my fat thumbs.

Ok, so…8 minutes left…

I called about joining a gym. I’m thinking when I’m back to work full time I’ll try out their free trial. Something needs to happen or this girl won’t have any pants to wear when the weather gets cooler.

Being back at work feel good. It feels right. But, I do find it hard only working 1/2 days. I feel like I start a project, get 3/4 of the way through it, then it’s time to go. Then I rush out the door, pick up my sweet baby and proceed to forget all about the project I left behind.

She’s not sleeping through the night yet (something Rylee did at about 7 weeks). Normally, she’s only up once to eat. There’s been a few nights this week where she’s woken up at 12:30 but isn’t hungry, she just needs to be snuggled, then goes back to sleep. Then she wakes up a couple hours later to eat, goes right back down. Then up again around 4 or 4:30 to get snuggled again, then will sleep until 6:30 (or 7, if I let her). Weird and frustrating and sweet all at the same time.

Rylee really has a sweet & salty side lately. There’s moment where she’s sweet as pie. Then most other times? Not so much. She has taken to arguing with me…a lot. And I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t completely beside myself about how to “fix it”. She only really does it to me, not so much to Andy. I know it’s because of all the attention I show Reese. I get that, but it doesn’t make it any easier. In fact, I hate it. We’re working on that.

2 more minutes…

Andy’s back at work too. Ugh is all I have to say about that.

We really, really need to get Reese’s newborn pics done. And by we, I mean that’s all on me. Oh and we need family pics too.

Ry is going to a friend’s birthday party this weekend. She’s beyond excited. I’m excited because it’s at a fro-yo joint. And that reminds me, we need to go shopping!

And that’s all the time we’ve got today, folks…happy Thursday?

Reese was killing me with the smiles yesterday!

Ry seriously loves her little sister.

Reese has started occasionally playing with her hair while she nurses. It’s pretty much the sweetest thing on the planet.

For my girls, for now and for future reference

In about ten or so years, you may read this and roll your eyes and think “yea right, Mom”. And that’s ok, you two won’t always get along. It happens.

But in another ten or so years after that, you’ll be sitting together, drinking some wine, read this and you’ll give each other a knowing smile. Because at that point, you two will be the best of friends and you’ll just know that it was like that from day one.

You two amaze me on a daily basis. From the day Reese was born, Rylee you’ve such a proud big sister. You beam with pride whenever someone asks you about your little sister. You would do anything to make her smile. And Reese? At not even 2 months old, it is amazing to me how much you already adore your big sister. You look at Rylee with such awe and wonder.

The other day, I had Reese with me at work for most of the day. Rylee, you had spent the day with Grammy. On the drive from my work to pick you up Reese had had enough and cried the majority of the way. Even walking into Grammy’s house she was still fussy. But Reese, the instant you heard your sister’s voice you stopped fussing. Once I got Reese out of her car seat we sat down in the living room. Ry, you came up next to us and you two did nothing but stare and smile at each other for the next 5 minutes.

This kind of thing happens a lot.

The bond you two share is so strong.

Your love for one another is already immeasurable.

Whether you realize it or not, you two are connected in a way that no one else will ever come close to.

You won’t always get along. Through the years your relationship will wax and wane like the moon. It’s natural and like I said, that’s ok.

But despite your disagreements and through your frustrations and tears, I hope and I pray that you are always the others #1 fan, biggest advocate and always have the others best interest at heart.

Only God knows what your futures hold, but I like to think that no matter what that may be, you two would move mountains to make one another’s dreams come true.

There is something so special about not only being sisters, but best friends. I hope you always know how blessed your two are to have one another.

I am so looking forward to watching you grow together. You two already make me so proud. I can’t tell you how many times I just get lost watching you two together and wonder how I got lucky enough to be your mom. You make my heart smile.

I love you both beyond measure.

xoxo,

Mom

Today.

Today I lost my temper.

Today I yelled.

Today brought some less than awesome news.

Today there was crying for no reason.

Today was a rough one.

If there was ever a day that would send me over the edge, today my toes were right there.

Today made it seem like going back to work next week can’t come soon enough.

Today was filled with giggles.

Today there was blackberry picking and apple throwing.

Today there were sisters that couldn’t stop smiling at eachother.

Today there were snuggles.

Today was really tough on me. But in a few years, or who knows maybe just a few months, I’ll look back on today and all I’ll remember is how excited Rylee was to feed Reese all by herself. And how funny it was when Ry found a spider in a toy bin and completely freaked out. Or how the girls did nothing but smile and coo at eachother for 5 minutes straight.

Those are the things that make every day worth it and the things I will miss tomorrow.

Life via iPhone

Apparently I never mastered the whole “blogging while on maternity leave” thing. I’d either feel bad I was ignoring Rylee or Andy or it’d be nap time for the girls and I’d either catch a few Zzz’s myself or look around at my disaster of a house a feel the sudden urge to scrub all the things. Or you know, load the dishwasher at least.

Don’t fret. This is my last week of maternity leave. Yep, 6 weeks has nearly already passed and I’m headed back to work on Tuesday the 4th. September is part time, then I’m back full time at the beginning of October.

I’m ready, but not. If that makes any sense at all.

While it seems nearly impossible to bust out my laptop for some legit blogging, I always have my phone handy so while 1 kid naps and the other eats I thought I’d give a quick update…

Ry heads back to school next week. She has a new teacher that we met in Saturday. She is really looking forward to being back at school! She’s still struggling with her sassy attitude. Well, ok she has no problem with it. I’m the one struggling.

Reese will be 6 weeks on Thursday. Crazy. She’s doing ok sleeping at night. Normally only waking once around 3 AM then up again around 5:30. I use the term “normally” loosely. Last night she had me up 3 times.

Her favorite place in the whole house is her changing table. She’s completely content just to lie there for minutes at a time.

She’s been smiling for a couple of weeks now. And she’s starting to coo a little bit now too.

I swear her eye lashes grow longer every day. Her hair is starting to lighten up a bit. It may end up being more auburn than we originally thought it would be.

She is finally big enough for cloth diapers which makes my wallet happy. Though today I’ve been lazy and just used disposables. But I’m not complaining at all because she has totally wrecked almost every diaper shes had on today.

She LOVES hanging out in our Ergo baby carrier. That thing is a magic worker! I swear I don’t know how people with more than one kid can get by without baby wearing. I wear her at the grocery store. I wear her outside while Ry is playing. I wear her around the house. Super convenient.

Ry still thinks her baby sis is the cats pajamas. Always wanting to be all up in her business. Always wanting to hold her. Always wanting to get up from the dinner table to go check on her. She does get kinda pissy if Reese cries too loud during her cartoon time though.

That’s all the update time I have for now. Hopefully once I’m back at work we’ll be in a bit more of a routine and I’ll be back to my old self.

Of course no update post would be complete without photos…

The human body is “so TOOL!”

Thank you to LeapFrog for sponsoring this review. For more information about the LeapFrog Tag Human Body Discovery Pack, please visit their website #LeapFrogTag #spon

{Where tool = cool}

That was Rylee’s reaction after spending some time with LeapFrog’s Tag Human Body Discovery Pack.

The Human Body Discovery pack was sent along with the “Getting Ready for Kindergarten” book. And like that one, Rylee loves it!

This one is a little bit different format…a fold out board as opposed to a book…and each panel teaches concepts about the human body like the digestive system, respiratory & circulatory systems, the nervous system and more, then uses a game to reinforce each concept.

While I think this particular set is still a little bit too advanced for Rylee right now, we were able to use the time to play/learn together. For example, for the skeletal system game, when it asked her to point out where on the body certain bones were, I gave her hints on her own body and she then pointed to the correct bone on the board.

She was obsessed with the “poop noises” the digestive system panel played when she used the Tag Reader to point to an organ. {No, it doesn’t actually make poop noises, Rylee just thinks poop is hilarious and uses any excuse to actually say poop. FUN.}

The set even comes with a growth chart and interactive stickers, like organs and glow in the dark bones. The growth chart also has fun songs about hand washing, teeth brushing and staying active.

Her favorite part of the whole set is the “Making Healthy Choices” game…where you go through your day and along the way you are asked questions about staying healthy, {questions about healthy eating, teeth brushing and exercise}. If you answer the questions correctly, you get to go again. The first person to make it to the end of their day wins!

{For the record, I totally won the first time we played!}
