So far this week…

Monday I jumped on a plane and headed to he Windy City for a work conference/trade show.

{who am I kidding, these days there is no jumping.}

Work has recently changed for me.

Three weeks ago, a trade show for me would have been filled with camo, gun, dudes and dudes wearing camo carrying guns has been replaced with…well, this…

I have no idea what company this panda guy represents, but he gave me some licorice…

Plates and plates of candy on the tables…at 8:30 in the morning…breakfast anyone?

Samples from booths like this…

Giant statue things made out of Jelly Beans and other candies…

I think I could get used to this industry…

Seriously though, the trip has been a great learning experience and I haven’t actually eaten that much candy. Promise.

Bonus: my sister lives here so I’ve got to stay with and visit her!

I’ve decided that I’m so not cut out for big city living. People in big cities are…well…not very nice. Even to clearly pregnant ladies.

Today was day 2 of the show. My feet? They hurt. There’s a half day tomorrow then I’m on my way home!

I miss my hubby. And my kid. And I miss nice people.

I work and I cook and it’s NBD.

Today I’m over on Liberating Working Moms sharing some of my tips & tricks for “Working Mom Meals Made Easy”…

If there’s one thing with this whole working mom gig I feel like I’ve got a pretty good handle on, it’s dinner time. In a given month, we eat out maybe one time.

Yep, you read that right, that means I cook pretty much every single day of the month. And it’s not just hot dogs & mac-n-cheese and quesadillas every night either. It’s things like steak, mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli…pork chops, rice and green beans…empanadas, spanish rice and beans.

All in all it’s easy, really. If you ask me, it’s just as quick and easy as going out to a restaurant, going out to bring something home or waiting for dinner to be delivered. Of course, my biased could also come from us not really having the luxury of option thanks to budgets.

If cooking more more meals at home is something you’ve wanted to start doing but didn’t know where to start, I promise you it’s not as intimidating as it sounds!

Here’s some of my best tips & tricks I’ve learned over the years…

You Know That Working Mom Blog Thing

I haven’t talked about it much over here lately, but I’m still writing weekly over at Liberating Working Moms.

So many great things have been happening on that side of the interwebs I wanted to share!

We’re up to 7 regular writers for the site now! I love the different mix of women we have. 3 from the Western side of North America, 4 from the Eastern side. 2 Canadians even! We all have different types of jobs too…2 of us in marketing, though not the same kind, 2 of us teachers, 1 office manager, 1 web developer and 1 attorney. A couple of us are boy moms, the rest of us are girl moms. Two of us have buns in the oven. It’s so great to see women from different walks of life coming together to share their experiences as working moms.

Some of our posts have been recognized and featured on the career page AND home page of the BlogHer Network! If you aren’t familiar with the BlogHer network it’s ok, but trust me when I say this is a BIG deal! And? Two of them were mine! One where I talked about leaving stress at the door and the other where I gave some tips for traveling for work while pregnant.

We recently started up an online shop where you can buy goodies for your favorite working mom! {I love the “Supermom at Work” one and the “I make Humans & Deadlines” one…just sayin’} I got to flex my mad design skillz on these and help Tracy, our founder & editor with the designs. It was a lot of fun and all the proceeds that are earned from these sales are being put toward sending our associate editor, Brandee, to BlogHer2012 National Blogging Conference where she can network and learn more about growing the blog on LWM’s behalf. If you ask me, these would make wonderful Mother’s Day gifts.

Today, I’m posting my “Working With Style”. It’s a feature we do every Saturday. We rotate between the 7 of us and today it’s my turn! I really stepped out of my comfort zone on this one…Go see!

And if you feel so inclined, you can like us on facebook to get links to our latest posts. Or maybe you’re not a working mom and you know someone who is, pass it on!

Ok…phew! I know that’s a ton of information but I’m so excited about everything that’s been going on I wanted to update you on this amazing community that has become such a big part of my life! {And I swear I’m done with the over usage of exclamation points now!…ok now.}

Working With Style in a New Office

Well last week was my first week in the new office. AKA a real office. With more than 3 other people. And not a barn. Talk about an adjustment! After 5 days, I’m still getting used to it!

Anyway, being in a new, real, office and all I figured I’d better step up the wardrobe…no more jeans & a sweatshirt because I just don’t feel like getting dressed and who’s going to care anyway days. I even busted out the slacks. I know, I know. Total shock to the system, but I forgot how I can rock the slacks.

So, Monday…

Blazer & Necklace: AT LOFT / Undershirt, Jeans & Boots: Target

Tuesday:

My fave cardi & Slacks: AT LOFT / White ruffly button up & Bracelets: American Eagle

Friday (and look! The bathroom in our new office actually has a mirror…OH HAPPY DAY!):

Jacket thing: American Eagle / Red Shirt: AT LOFT

I wore red on Friday to show my support for Women’s Heart Health. Alicia, one of the newest ladies on the LWM team hosted Working With Style, wrote all about it this week. You really should go check it out!

Working With Style…Attack of the Black

This was the one day this week that I’d say I put in an actual effort to look halfway decent. And it wasn’t because I wanted to, it was because I kind of had to. All of my jeans that still fit (all 3 pair) were dirty so I had to get creative. There’s a whole lotta black going on, but I thought it came together pretty well.

Headband: 25Design {Torie just had a baby, so her shop is temporarily closed, but I LOVE her stuff!}
Dress: Gap, borrowed
Cardi: AT Loft
Leggings: Target
Boot Socks: Gift, not sure where they’re from
Boots: Target

The dress is borrowed from my girlfriend. I needed a “nice” dress for a photoshoot for work and I put it on the night before the shoot and it look horrible on me. Seriously awful. It was baggy, yet hugged in all the wrong places…you know the kind. Anyway, it was sitting on the chair in my bedroom this morning,  so I figured I’d give it another go, but add my favorite, go-to cardi with it. It worked! The cardi hid all the nastyness perfetly. And seriously, I know you’re probably like, pfft, whatever Kat, I doubt it was that bad…if you pay me $10 I will take a pic with only the dress and prove it to you. Ok, maybe not, but just trust me, it was bad. And for the record, my friend agreed because she bought it without trying it on 2 or 3 years ago and you the tags were STILL on it when she brought it to me.

I’m linking up over at Liberating Working Moms for our Work with Style weekly series, come join up!
