It’s not the end of the world

As I was headed back to work after the gym today I heard this song for the first time…and I just had to share it.

I can’t help but tap my feet when I hear it. I can’t help but sing along. I can’t help but relate to the words.

And it’s a message I need to remember. Always.

I hope you enjoy…

Also? Happy Friday friends. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Today I Met the Devil…

You guys? I’m serious. I’m almost sure of it.

The devil is not so cleverly disguised as… spin class.

You think I’m kidding?

Have you even taken a spin class?

Ho-ly crap I feel like I just gave birth. Those tiny little seats are awful. Like, I may need to stop by target on the way home to buy some newborn diapers to stuff with ice to sit on them like the nice nurses taught me to do at the hospital after I had Rylee. Ok, maybe not that extreme, but sitting on a bag of frozen peas may or may not be happening in my house tonight…just sayin’.

I am afraid to pee. It’s going to hurt too bad.

I have never sweat so much in.my.life. Like, maybe I should have taken two showers before returning to work sweat so much.

My legs have never felt that kind of burn. Like, my quads were bright red and my big toes were falling asleep kind of burn.

I have never been more mad at myself for not bringing water to class. Like, it was all I could do not to jump the lady next to me to steal her water. And I may have done it if my legs weren’t burning so bad.

However…all that being said…I have a feeling the devil and I will be meeting again next Wednesday. And many more Wednesdays to come. Because from what I can tell, knee fat hates the devil.

Motivation has officially been found.

I’m going to get real here. Very, very real. Like out of my comfort zone, feeling vulnerable real.
I need to lose weight.
About 10 to 15 pounds if I’m being honest with myself.
Now before you start rolling your eyes and “phhhsssa-ing” at me, hear me out on this one.
Every person has a comfort zone at which they feel best about themselves. And it’s different for everyone. I happen to be out of my zone right now. Am I overweight? No, technically I have a healthy BMI. Am I comfortable with the way I look? Sometimes. Is there room for improvement? Big time.

This has been on my mind for quite a while now, I just haven’t done anything about it. After my time at the tradeshow last week, I decided it was time to take action.

Why this sudden change in motivation, you ask?

I’ll tell you why.

Because the bathroom in my hotel room had a wrap-around mirror.

And you know what I saw one morning when I was stepping out of the shower?

Knee fat.

Did you read that?

KNEE FAT.

Ew. Just…ew.

When it comes down to it, I just need to get my butt in gear and get in shape. I need to be able to go outside and run after my two year old without getting winded. It’s pathetic, really. I need to get in shape before baby #2. {That’s right…crossables crossed and God willing, baby #2 will be coming to a uterus near you Summer/Fall 2011.}

So, instead of whining about it and feeling bad about myself, I’m finally motivated enough to do something about it. I don’t feel like I need to go on any kind of crazy diet, so much as make general, healthier lifestyle changes.

Ok. Here’s my plan:

Actually use my gym membership. Crazy idea. I know. My goal is to workout 3 days per week. At least 30 minutes.

Cut back on the crazy food and just generally eat better. Cut back on the soda. Limit myself on lattes. One per week. Maybe. {Bonus: this will save me money too!}

Track my progress. For real. I have signed up for myfitnesspal.com to track my calories and exercise with an online food/exercise journal. And WOW, talk about keeping me in check already. Turns out I am a snack-a-soraus rex!

Drink.more.water. As in going from maybe 8 oz per day all the way up to the recommended 64 ounces.

There you have it. That’s my plan.

Motivation and encouragement accepted. Harsh words, take a hike. Please and thank you.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go refill my water glass.

Because We all Want to be Perfect

Can you hear that? Listen closely. Still can’t hear it? It’s Christmas music playing ever so faintly in the back of your head. Don’t fight it. Christmas is just around the corner.

Now, normally I am a HUGE advocate for NO CHRISTMAS until AFTER THANKSGIVING!!! {yes, so passionate that it requires all caps}

One of my favorite things about the Christmas season? Christmas cards. Sending and receiving. I especially love them if they include photos. Let’s talk Christmas cards for a minute, shall we?

Everyone wants their Christmas cards to show a perfect little family. Matching, or at least coordinating, outfits. All smiles. All happy. My track record so far isn’t great. Observe…

When I was pregnant with Ry, I was supposed to have my ultrasound to find out her gender the week before Christmas. I had this great plan that in our Christmas cards I would include an ultrasound photo announcing it to all of our friends and family. Then our ultrasound got pushed back until after Christmas and I got so annoyed I didn’t even send out Christmas cards.

The next year…well, actually I can’t remember what happened that year. It’s all a blur.

Last year Ry was so sick in the weeks leading up to Christmas with swine flu and pneumonia that I literally did not have the energy to put Christmas cards in the mail.

But this year? It’s all going to change. I’ve already started planning. I’ve already started shopping. And, we’ve already taken family photos. For your enjoyment I’ve included a link to our blooper reel HERE because we’re not actually all perfect.

It’s never to early to start planning. Remember? I’m kind of Type-A.

Enter: Shutterfly

They have hundreds of holiday cards to choose from. Like I said, the photo ones are my favorite. If you are lucky enough to get more than one “perfect” family shot, they have cards that allow you to display all of them like this one:

However, if you’re like my family, with a 2 year old, a grumpy husband and toss in a dog for good measure, it was hard enough getting one really good one. Luckily, Shutterfly has tons of options if you have to go the one photo route. I love my holiday cards to be simple and classy and not too commercial (ie no Santa). I was not disappointed with the selection. There are two different card designs that I love!

And in my true Type-A style, I can even get matching return address labels. SCORE!

If you want to be anal retentive cool like me and start planning early, Shutterfly is offering 20% off all holiday cards. Just go HERE for more details.

Now, get to planning! But, before you go…help! Which of the 2 designs do you like better?

This post is part of a series sponsored by Shutterfly. In exchange for my post I am receiving 50 free holiday cards. If you have a blog and you want to know more, go HERE.

UFF Da! Rocks my socks!

Hi friends. I’ve been meaning to write this post for a couple of weeks now, but obviously by my lack of posts recently, I have not yet come around to it. Well ladies and gentlemen, here we are.
See, I have this friend. Her name is Emily. She has a blog. She has a ridiculously cute little girl named Poppy. And a couple of months ago she started an Etsy shop with all of her cute handcrafted goodies.
You guys remember this little blue poppy clip from our trip to the beach? Yea, this was my first purchase from UFF Da!. It’s actually a hair clip, but since Ry refuses to let me pull her hair back, I decided to accessorize her hat with it!
Before I knew it, Emily was making adorable, “upcycled” hats made out of repurposed sweaters and hand stitched patches with woodland creatures on it. I spotted a white hat with a pink deer on it…how perfect, right? I had entered a giveaway to try and win one, but when that didn’t pan out, I went in for the purchase. And I was not disappointed! Since Emily is based out of Seattle, I had an envelope in my mailbox 3 days later! I was so excited! I hopped back in the car, turned to Rylee in the back seat and told her there was a new hat in the envelope. Ry loves her hats, so she was very excited as well. I opened it up and Rylee had the biggest grin on her face and let out the cutest little giggle. She reached for the hat and put it right on her head.

I couldn’t get the hat off of her! So I went ahead and grabbed my camera to snag a few more shots of the hat Rylee.
{yea, yea kid, I see your bruises…I’m more interested in your hat right now!}

Once we finally got inside I was able to check out what else was in the envelope. I found a sweet handwritten note from Emily thanking me for the purchase. I was so excited for this because I personally think that handwritten thank you notes is a lost art. There was also her business card and an UFF Da! sticker. I am really happy with the quality of both products I have purchased and her service has been excellent!
{Proudly sportin’ my new sticker on my party planning notebook!}

Her store is filled with a lot more handmade hats and hair clips. You’ll also find hair clippie holders, fairy wands, stylish bandana style drool bibs and even hand sewn vintage style dresses. If you know anyone with little kidlets or if you have some of your own you should go check out Emily’s UFF Da! Etsy shop. You will not be disappointed! Christmas is just around the corner. {I can’t believe I just said that…and yes, I may have already started my shopping…}
Now, for the record and to avoid any confusion, I was in no way compensated for my words. Miss Emily had no idea that I was writing this post. I did this review because, like I said, UFF Da! Rocks my socks!
