A Photo Shoot For Rylee!

I am super excited about this post! To help cure my Andy-gets-a-Spring-Break grumpiness, I am taking Monday off of work and we are taking Ry for her first trip to the zoo! The photographer that did mine and Andy’s wedding -and most of our friends since- (Bliss Studio) has started a little hat making business (Sticks and Fuzzies) on the side and was looking for models to show off their hats. Of course, I volunteered Rylee…she just looks so cute in hats! So, before we go to the zoo on Monday, we are going to swing into the Bliss Studio for a little photo shoot! I can’t wait to share the pics from it!

How cute are these hats!?

Here are some of my very favorite shots that Whitney and Bliss Studio have done…

The Life of a Wife of a Teacher

How many people can say they love their job? I mean really love it…not many. I happen to be one of those people. So much so, that I couldn’t wait to go back to work after I had Rylee…literally, I was practically running out the door when she was 3 weeks old! I love what I do. I’ve known what “I wanted to be when I grow up” since high school. I went straight to college, declared my major and never looked back. I took Summer classes and graduated with my degree before I turned 21. There’s a lot of different things I love about my job. The people I work with, both internally and externally. The fact that no two days are ever the same. Even just the industry I’m in. There’s only a few times a year when I don’t love my job – March, June and December. Those times of year happen to be the beginning of breaks for my husband, the teacher.

Let me just say, he earns and deserves those breaks! I couldn’t (don’t even want to) imagine teaching middle school. Hats off to all teachers!! But, there’s just something I hate about these times of year when I am the only one who has to go to work in the morning. It’s hard to get out of bed. My routine is thrown off. I can honestly say I’m even a little jealous that he gets to stay home with Ry. They have a special little bond because of it.

As of 4:15 PM today, Andy will officially be on Spring Break for the next whole week. As of 4:15 this afternoon, I will still be at work.

Re-Sleep Training an Almost 2-Year-Old…UGH.

Let me just start out by saying how completely blessed I have been with a good sleeper. At 3 weeks old, Rylee was only waking up once in the night to eat and by 7 weeks, she was sleeping through the night. By “through the night” I mean 7:30 PM to 7:00 AM. Even with an almost 12 hour night of sleep, she would take at least 2 naps a day, always at the same times (give or take a 1/2 hour). It contiuned that way well into this last December…that’s when it all started changing.
I attribute these good sleeping habits to a few different things…1. She likes to sleep…just like her mama! 2. Consistent Schedule-this was one area I refused to budge on. 3. I got hints from books (a BabyWise/Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child Combo). 4. We’ve been at this since she was 2 weeks old.
I can’t complain too much about Rylee’s current nap schedule. It’s very consistent. I think we are in a transition period from 2 naps a day, down to 1. Considering that 1 nap ends up being 3 hours long, I’m fine with that. Where I’m struggling is thie nighttime habits that have developed since she’s been so sick. It all started back in December. Rylee got really sick and it turns out she had H1N1 (or Swine Flu). From there, it progressed into pnemonia. After that, she got the regular flu. After that she got RSV, Bronchiolitis and Croup. From there, she got pnemonia again. I’d be crazy if I didn’t knock on wood when I write that I think we are finally over all that. She finished up her latest round of antibiotics this last Saturday.
Now, you can’t blame a kid for waking up in the middle of the night when she can hardly breath. And you can’t blame her parents for be so worried about her that they end up sleeping the rest of the night on the couch with her. The trouble starts when you realize that your kid is healthy, no breathing issues and she’s still waking up in the middle of the night and then points to her bedroom door as if to say “Ok, let’s go sleep on the couch now!”
Last night was my shift for the Rylee wake up and at 1:40 in the morning, I was not about to spend the rest of my 4 hours on the couch…I decided it was time for a change! Channeling all I could remember from my Babywise and HSH-HC readings, I rocked with Rylee for about 30 minutes or so and got her all calmed down. She started fidgeting and I could tell she could not find a comfortable way to fall asleep on Mama’s lap. I got up from the rocking chair, gave her a kiss and told her it was time to go back to bed…by herself. I left the room and the next 15 minutes were some of the hardest, longest Mama minutes I have experienced. She cried and screamed and now that she can talk, she yelled “Uppy” and even “Mama” (which is extra hard to hear because she never says mama). She had 3 different fits like this within that 15 minutes, but right as I was about to go rescue her, she stopped. I listened and waited 5 more minutes. Then I went back to bed, in my own bed, for the next 3 glorious hours.
Tonight is Daddy’s shift. If he contiues what I started tonight, let’s hope we break this bad habit as quickly as it began.

Declaration of Independence!

When I told Ry to pick out  a pair of pants to wear this morning, she decided a skirt was a better idea. Forget about the fact it’s pouring down rain. I went with it anyway and made sure to put some leggings on underneath. She actually asked me to put her hair in a pony this morning too, of course she didn’t sit still long enough to make it look half way decent, but I went with it. Then, it was time to leave…and she decided she wanted to wear her boots. After yesterday’s battle, I went with it…and took a picture! So begins the times of strangers looking at my child and wondering to themselves “and who dressed you this morning!?” Whatever, I’ll go with it!

"Smile"

I really don’t know how this got started, where she picked this up from, who taught her this…you get the drift. I’ve seen other kids do this too, which leads me to believe it’s something all kids go through. On one hand it cracks me up and I love it, on the other hand, it’s totally annoying! When I have the camera out and I say, “SMILE!”…that’s what I want, a smile, not a squint. These pictures are too funny not to share though!
