Happy Summer!

Well, I guess considering the weather around here these days you wouldn’t know it, but in my house it is officially Summer break!

Summer break is more than just a time for kids and teachers to regenerate. It’s a really great time for the spouses of teachers to regenerate too. Well, at least for me. We are typically pretty laid back in our house, but during the Summer, we really get to kick back. With 12.5 acres to take care of, there is always something that needs to get taken care of, but during Summer, it’s different. It’s not work. It’s spending time outside and any time outside is fun! With Andy home all Summer, he not only has a chance to spend a whole bunch of time with Rylee, he also has a lot of time to get stuff done around the house. I come home from work and dishes are done, laundry is folded and sometimes, even dinner is started. This leaves the whole rest of the evening to spend time as a family. Needless to say, I look forward to Summer break just as much as Andy!

Throughout the school year, Andy and I spend a lot of time sharing plans, goals, aspirations and dreams for the Summer. On the docket for this Summer? All kinds of things like…

  • Chainsaw carving contest over Father’s Day
  • Julia & Spencer’s wedding
  • Ry’s first trip to the Oregon Coast Aquarium/play at the beach
  • 4th of July party at the Clark’s…I think we’ll even let Ry stay up an watch the fireworks
  • Ry’s first camping trip! (hopefully more than just one)
  • Ry’s first fishing trip
  • Celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary
  • Hikes-short and easy ones
  • Play outside as much as possible
  • Swim at Mammy’s house
  • BBQ as much as possible…I love to grill!
  • And, we musn’t forget about…POTTY TRAINING!!

The last day of school was today. I posted last night about a really nice note Andy got from a student. Tonight, he came home with an entire case of Pepsi and a very fun looking gift bag. This time it was from parents. When I mentioned how cute I thought the bag was, Andy said I’d love what was inside. Looking inside, I found 4 solar lights for outside walkway illumination. SO CUTE! And they will look great in the front of our house. Then, I looked at the card. And I almost cried yet again.

Here’s what it said: “Thanks you for lighting the path for my kids. They now for once enjoy coming to school. We think of you often and you will never be forgotten.”

How cute is that gift bag, right!? Oh, and yes, for those of you who read my blog that have been to my house, I totally took that photo in the bathroom…I wanted a bright background. Haha.

I hope everyone enjoys Summer as much as we do! What kind of fun stuff do you have planned?
