"About Me"

As I have been venturing more into the “world of blogging” I have come to realize a couple of things. First, this blog has become just as much about me as it has about my monster. Second, I really have no idea what I am doing. And that’s ok.  I’ve noticed that some mama-blogs have “about me” sections. I have big dreams and aspirations of having different sections on my blog too…for instance; about me, cooking/recipes/party planning, ok, that’s actually as far as I have gotten on that list. The bottom line is, I really have no idea how to do that. So, until I figure it out, I thought I’d write a little “about me” right here…

My name is Katherine. To some, I’m “Kat”. To my siblings, I’m “Sis”. To my best friend, I’m “B”. To the hubs, I’m “Wife” or “Toots”. I do not go by Katie or Kathy. Period. And don’t even think for a second it’s ok to spell my name with a “C“.  (I just threw up a little bit in my mouth)

I grew up the 3rd of 4 children and never really got along with my siblings. Now they are some of my very best friends and could not imagine my life without them. I’ve known my best friend (Auntie Julia) since the day I was born (this isn’t confirmed, but that’s our story). I’ve known since high school “what I wanted to be when I grew up.” I graduated from high school at the ripe old age of 16, then went on to graduate from college at 20. I married the man I’d had a crush on since I was 14 the day after my 21st birthday. Two years later, we bought 12-ish acres with 2 homes and got a dog the day we moved in. Had my monster at 23, and now, ladies and gentlemen, here we are.

I love to spend time outside-gardening, hiking, camping, hunting, fishing. Yes, I said hunting. I grew up hunting and now have the pleasure of working for one of the greatest archery manufacturers around and I love my job. I have a lot of little quirks, like my fruit eating, what beverage goes with what cup/glass, among others. If you read this blog long enough, you will probably come to realize how crazy I am about some things.

Because of my Birkenstock wearing, recycling, cloth diapering ways, some have called me a hippy. To that I respond, “If you call a hippy someone who hunts, eats meat and who’s father works in the forestry industry a hippy, then color me granola!”

While thinking about what I would write in my “about me” section, I’ve come to realize that I am one big fat contradiction! Here’s 20 make that 21 reasons to back up why I say that…

  1. I love to cook, but I hate doing dishes.
  2. I like to change my mind, but I hate it when plans change.
  3. I love to garden, but I hate to weed.
  4. I can kill, gut and cut & wrap a deer, but I cannot stand pulling cooked chicken meat off the bone.
  5. I can talk a big game, but when it comes down to it, I hate confrontation.
  6. I can cry at commercials at the drop of a hat, but hate it when people see me cry for real reasons.
  7. I can hunt, camp and not shower for days, but I love to dress up and look perdy.
  8. My faith is a huge part of my life and I love the Lord, but I don’t really like to talk about it.
  9. I love that we were able to keep our property/home by renting out the extra house, but I hate being a landlord.
  10. I love that the hubs is a teacher and that he spends his breaks with Ry, but I hate that he spends more time with her than me.
  11. I love it when the hubs goes grocery shopping with me, but can’t stand the fact that he doesn’t park down the row I normally park in.
  12. I love to scrapbook, but I always seem to do it for others and not myself.
  13. I want to move up in the ranking for Top Baby Blogs, but I am too embarrassed to ask people to vote for me.
  14. While playing with Ry, I can’t stop thinking about the work that needs to get done around the house, but when I am getting that work done, I cannot stop thinking about how I should be enjoying time with my daughter and that the dishes can wait.
  15. I love cute & trendy things, but I hate spending the $$ to be cute and trendy.
  16. I love the way I look when I wear my hair down, but I would rather sleep in for 25 more minutes.
  17. I worry sometimes that I’m not a good mom because I focus on work so much, but at the same time, I cannot imagine my life not working.
  18. I have somewhat strong views on politics, religion and other hot topics, but I keep them to myself. (see #5)
  19. I will never call my mom’s husband my “stepdad”, but if I’m being really honest, I love him like a father.
  20. I am not easily embarrassed and can talk dirty right alongside the guys at work, but the hubs makes me blush on a daily basis.
  21. I can get easily overwhelmed, but I hate saying no.

There you have it. That’s me in a nutshell.
